Egon Monk
Egon Monk (18 May 1927 – 28 February 2007) was a German actor, director and author. Biography Monk was born in Berlin, Germany and grew up in Berlin-Wedding. He served in the German Air Force in World War II (1943–1945). After the war he became an actor. Later he worked for RIAS Berlin (1954–1959) and for the NDR. He died in Hamburg, Germany. In 2019, a two-part German-Austrian-Czech fictional film was produced as a biopic and docudrama for television from 2019. It deals with the life and work of the playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht and features 'Egon Monk' portrayed by Franz Dinda. The film was shot based on the script by Heinrich Breloer and directed by him. The premiere took place at the 2019 Berlinale. Awards and honors Monk won three Teleplay Awards at the Baden-Baden TV Film Festival (1966, 1973, 1989) and one German Critics Association Award (1988). Señora Carrar's Rifles
''Señora Carrar's Rifles'' (german: Die Gewehre der Frau Carrar) is a one-act play by the twentieth-century German dramatist Bertolt Brecht, written in collaboration with Margarete Steffin. It is a modern version of the Irish dramatist John Millington Synge's play ''Riders to the Sea'' (1904). The play's setting is re-located to Spain during the height of the Civil War. Teresa Carrar, the mother, wants to protect her children but ends up fighting on the side of the oppressed. Brecht wrote it in 1937 and it received its first theatrical production in the same year, opening in Paris on 16 October. This production was directed by Slatan Dudow and Helene Weigel played Señora Carrar.Willett (1959, 45-46). East German Films
This is a list, in year order, of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) from 1945 until German Reunification in October 1990. The state owned East German film company DEFA produced about 800 feature films between 1946 and 1992. Besides DEFA, the state broadcaster DFF and the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst (now the Filmuniversität Babelsberg) were the only other organizations in the GDR that produced feature films for cinematic release, although far fewer than DEFA. DEFA also produced about 750 animated movies and more than 2500 documentaries and short films.
