Die Chinesische Mauer
''Die Chinesische Mauer'' is Michael Cretu's third solo album, released in 1985. The literal English translation of the title is ''"The Chinese Wall"'', or as it is better known, ''"The Great Wall of China"''. Like his previous album Legionäre, this had German lyrics, was sung by Michael and was co-produced by Armand Volker. The album was separately with English lyrics and a different track listing under the name ''"The Invisible Man"''. Several of the tracks on ''"The Invisible Man"'' were edited slightly and therefore last for a different length than the German versions on ''Die Chinesische Mauer'' and sides 1 and 2 were swapped for a more commercial track-listing. The song Samurai was released as a single and became a hit in Europe (#1 Greece, #2 Switzerland, #4 Italy, #4 Sweden, #12 Germany), but its success was mostly with the English version. Michael Cretu
Michael Cretu ( ro, Mihai Crețu, ; born 18 May 1957) is a Romanian-German musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He gained worldwide fame as the founder and musician behind the musical project Enigma, which he formed in 1990. Cretu began a music career in 1976 as a solo artist and released numerous studio albums as well as writing and producing albums for his then-wife, German pop singer Sandra. He also worked with artists through the 1980s, including Peter Cornelius, Hubert Kah, and Mike Oldfield. Cretu was sometimes identified as "Curly" or "Curly M.C.", in reference to his curly hair and ''creț'' meaning "curly" in Romanian. Cretu scored an unexpected worldwide commercial hit with the debut Enigma album '' MCMXC a.D.'' (1990), helped by its lead single, "Sadeness (Part I)". The Great Wall of China (, literally "ten thousand ''li'' wall") is a series of fortifications that were built across the historical northern borders of ancient Chinese states and Imperial China as protection against various nomadic groups from the Eurasian Steppe. Several walls were built from as early as the 7th century BC, with selective stretches later joined by Qin Shi Huang (220–206 BC), the first emperor of China. Little of the Qin wall remains. ''The Long Play'' is the debut studio album by German singer Sandra, released on 11 November 1985 by Virgin Records. The album was a great commercial success and spawned Sandra's signature number-one single "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" as well as the international top-five single " In the Heat of the Night".
