Didier Talpain
Didier Talpain is a French conductor and diplomat. Diplomatic career Talpain graduated from the Institut Commercial de Nancy and in political studies from the Institut d'études politiques de Strasbourg. He has primarily served in cultural exchange projects with the countries, such as Poland, he has been assigned. Musical career Talpain studied flute, bassoon and chamber music at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, and conducted at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) in Paris. In 1985 he won a Menuhin Foundation prize and in 1995 the prize from the Perrenoud Foundation. ''Le docteur Miracle'' (''Doctor Miracle'') is an opérette in one act by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto, by Léon Battu and Ludovic Halévy, is based on Sheridan's play ''Saint Patrick's Day''. Bizet wrote the work when he was just 18 years old for a competition organised by Jacques Offenbach. He shared first prize with Charles Lecocq. His reward was to have the piece performed 11 times at Offenbach's Bouffes-Parisiens theatre. The premiere took place on 9 April 1857 at Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens in Paris. Roles Plot The story takes place in Padua in the middle of the nineteenth century. ''Don Procopio'' is a two-act opera buffa by Georges Bizet with an Italian libretto completed in 1859, and first performed in 1906. Background Bizet spent 1857 to 1860 in Italy as winner of the Prix de Rome. Looking for inspiration for a work to send home, he found the subject for his opera buffa in a second-hand bookstall in Rome, writing home that the piece by Carlo Cambiaggio (1798–1880) was "an Italian farce in the manner of ''Don Pasquale''". The words were a reduced version of ''I pretendenti delusi'' (1811) by Giuseppe Mosca (1772–1839). Composition was sporadic over the winter of 1858–59; Bizet confessed that he was still trying to find his voice, although he intentionally aimed at an Italian style for this piece. The report from the Prix de Rome judges noted advances, but a later report signed by Ambroise Thomas criticised Bizet for sending an ''opéra bouffe'' as his first envoi and suggested he divert his attention away from this toward sacred music (although ... Georges Bizet (; 25 October 18383 June 1875) was a French composer of the Romantic music, Romantic era. Best known for his operas in a career cut short by his early death, Bizet achieved few successes before his final work, ''Carmen'', which has become one of the most popular and frequently performed works in the entire opera repertoire. During a brilliant student career at the Conservatoire de Paris, Bizet won many prizes, including the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1857. He was recognised as an outstanding pianist, though he chose not to capitalise on this skill and rarely performed in public. Returning to Paris after almost three years in Italy, he found that the main Parisian opera theatres preferred the established classical repertoire to the works of newcomers.
