Dicksboro GAA
Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city. Dicksboro entered and won the junior championship of 1910. Dicksboro entered the senior championship in 1911. Dicksboro had no team from 1961 to 1969, until the club was reformed. Dicksboro officially opened the grounds in Palmerstown in June 1990. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Kilkenny Senior Hurling League
The Kilkenny Senior Hurling League (known for sponsorship reasons as the St. Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling League) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1992 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. The series of games are played over the spring, summer and autumn months with the league final currently being played at Nowlan Park in September. The prize for the winning team is the Matty Power Cup. The league has 12 teams divided into two groups with six teams in each group. Each team in each group plays each other once with the top team in each group progressing to the final. Cillian Buckley
Cillian Buckley (born 14 July 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Kilkenny Senior Championship club Dicksboro and at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a left wing-back. Playing career St Kieran's College During his schooling at St Kieran's College in Kilkenny, Buckley established himself as a key member of the senior hurling team. In 2010 he won his first Leinster medal following a 3-13 to 1-11 defeat of Dublin Colleges. On 3 April 2010 St Kieran's faced Ardscoil Rís in the All-Ireland decider. Buckley's side trailed by five points as the game entered the final quarter, however, St. Kieran's staged a magnificent comeback, hitting 1-5 without reply including a Michael Brennan goal in the 51st minute, to claim a 2-11 to 2-8 victory. Michael Walsh (Kilkenny Hurler)
Michael Walsh (born 13 October 1961) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a goalkeeper for the Kilkenny senior team and played soccer for Kilkenny City A.F.C. at schoolboy, youth, junior and senior level, as well as lining out for the Republic of Ireland youth team. Walsh made his first appearance for the team during the mid-1980s, however, he didn't become first-choice goalkeeper until the 1990-91 National League and was a regular member of the team until his retirement after the 1996 championship. During that time he has won two All-Ireland winners' medals, three Leinster winners' medals, one National League winners' medal and two All-Star awards. Dan Kennedy (hurler, Born 1925)
Daniel Kennedy (1925 – 6 February 1976) was an Irish sportsman. He is best known as a hurler for several teams Thomastown, Dicksboro and Bennettsbridge clubs and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team in the 1940s and 1950s. Dan Kennedy captained Kilkenny in 1947. Playing career Club Kennedy first played hurling with his local Thomastown club and enjoyed some success. In 1946 it was with Thomastown that he won his first county title. Kennedy later joined the Dicksboro club and won a second county medal in 1950, however, it was with the famous Bennettsbridge club that he became really successful. He added more county medals to his collection in 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956. Paddy Grace
Patrick Grace (3 August 1917 – 21 July 1984) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Palmerstown, County Kilkenny, Grace first played competitive hurling during his schooling at CBS Kilkenny. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team. He joined the senior panel during the 1937-38 league. Grace immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won two All-Ireland medals and six Leinster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Grace won one Railway Cup medals. At club level he won five championship medals having played with Éire Óg, Carrickshock and Dicksboro. His grandsons, Tommy and Pádraig Walsh, have also enjoyed All-Ireland success with Kilkenny. Matty Power
Matthew "Matty" Power (18 October 1899 – 7 October 1965) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling at various times with his local clubs Dicksboro and Garda. Power was also a member of the Kilkenny and Dublin senior inter-county team in the 1920s and 1930s. Biography Matty Power was born in Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny in 1899. He was educated locally and later trained as a member of the Garda Síochána before moving to Dublin where he worked as a guard. Together with his wife, Nancy Walsh (1916–2003), they also ran a boarding house at Gardiner Place called Kilkenny House. Matty Power died from lung cancer in 1965.
