Dick Siderowf
Richard L. Siderowf (born July 3, 1937) is an American amateur golfer, who is best known for winning the British Amateur twice. Early life Siderowf was born in New Britain, Connecticut. He attended Duke University and played golf for the Blue Devils. Golf career Siderowf's first British Amateur victory came in 1973, a 5 & 3 victory over Peter H. Moody, at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales. His second British title came in 1976, on the 37th hole over J.C. Davies. In the match against Davies, over the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland, Siderowf hooked his ball so far left on the 36th hole of the match—the 18th at St Andrews—that it came to rest next to the caddiemaster's office near the first tee. Befuddled, he asked his local caddie the distance to the green, and the caddie replied, "I don't know, I've never had someone hit it here before." Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. From 2002 the teams have been three players with two counting. The 2004, 2010 and 2012 championships were reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather. 1976 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1976 Eisenhower Trophy took place 13 to 16 October at the Penina Hotel & Golf Resort in Portimão, Algarve, Portugal. It was the tenth World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 38 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Great Britain and Ireland won the Eisenhower Trophy for the second time, finishing two strokes ahead of the silver medalists, Japan, who had also been runners-up in 1974. Australia took the bronze medal, three strokes further behind, while team Republic of China finished fourth. Chen Tze-ming from Republic of China and Ian Hutcheon, representing Great Britain and Ireland, had the lowest individual scores, one-over-par 293. Teams 38 four-man teams contested the event. 1968 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1968 Eisenhower Trophy took place 9 to 12 October at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Black Rock, Victoria, Australia. It was the sixth World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 26 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States won the Eisenhower Trophy for the third time, finishing a strokes ahead of the silver medalists, Great Britain and Ireland. Canada took the bronze medal while Australia finished fourth. Michael Bonallack and Vinny Giles had the lowest individual scores, six-under-par 286. Great Britain and Ireland led by 7 strokes after three rounds but the Americans scored 73, 73 and 75 in the final round to Great Britain and Irelands 76, 76, and 77 to win by a stroke. Juno Beach, Florida
Juno Beach is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. Its population was 3,176 at the 2010 census. As of 2018, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was estimated at 3,648. Donald James Ross (November 23, 1872 – April 26, 1948) was a golf course designer. He was born in Dornoch, Scotland, but became a citizen of and spent most of his adult life in the United States. Ross started his career by being an apprentice to Old Tom Morris at St Andrews in Scotland around 1899. With the help of an American agronomy student, fellow Scotsman Robert White from St. Andrews, Ross decided to move to America. Ross invested all his life savings to move to the United States and walked off the boat with only $2. In America, he got his first job at Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. He quickly rose to the position of golf professional at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, where he began his course designing career.
