Dick Rienstra
Dick Rienstra (1941 – 2021) was a Dutch singer and actor. Rienstra began his musical career in a local group, The Double S Combo, where he sang and played guitar, clarinet, and saxophone. In 1960 he debuted on the radio in a KRO program, and in 1962 on the TV, in a VARA talent show. He moved to Amsterdam in 1963 and got a job in a musical comedy production as a singer and an actor in skits, and in 1966 signed with the ''Snip en Snap Revue''. With the Amsterdams Volkstoneel he performed in the musical '' De Jantjes'', and later formed a musical duo called De Jantjes as well. He was a contender in the preliminaries for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1977, and after that performed in the theater and in minor roles on television. Assen
Assen () is a municipality and a city in the northeastern Netherlands, and is the capital (politics), capital of the province of Drenthe. It received City rights in the Netherlands, city rights in 1809. ''Flodders in America'' ( nl, Flodder in Amerika!), released in Quebec as ''Les Lavigueur Redéménagent'', is a 1992 Dutch comedy film directed by Dick Maas. The film is the sequel of the successful film ''Flodder'' from 1986. It was filmed on location in New York and stars Dutch actors Huub Stapel, Nelly Frijda, Tatjana Simic, Rene van 't Hof, Lou Landré, Gerard Joling, Dick Rienstra, and American actor Jon Polito as nightclub owner Larry Rosenbaum. The Omroepvereniging VARA (), the VARA Broadcasting Association, was a Dutch public broadcasting association primarily operating in the fields of television, radio, publishing and interactive media. It was a member of Netherlands Public Broadcasting. Snip En Snap
Snip en Snap (or, the ''Snip en Snap Revue'') were a Dutch cabaret act, consisting of Willy Walden and Piet Muijselaar, who performed songs and skits in drag and were active from 1937 to 1977. The act was conceived by Jacques van Tol, who borrowed the concept from Solser en Hesse ("Wip en Snip"). Walden and Muijselaar first appeared as the duo in 1937, on the AVRO radio show '' De bonte dinsdagavondtrein''. Initially planned as a one-time act – for Walden and Muijselaar had no interest in dressing up in women's clothing for the stage, but made an exception for radio – the show was so popular that AVRO engaged them through their agent/producer, Rene Sleeswijk, for a theater tour in which they were the main attraction; after a year the tour (known as the ''Sleeswijk Revue''), which had become more an act showcasing the duo, gained great popularity, and ran for forty years. Netherlands In The Eurovision Song Contest 1977
The Netherlands was represented by Heddy Lester, with the song "De mallemolen", at the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in London on 7 May. Lester was the winner of the Dutch national final for the contest, held on 2 February. Before Eurovision Nationaal Songfestival 1977 The final was held at the Congresgebouw in The Hague, hosted by Ati Dijckmeester. Ten songs took part and voting was by eleven "celebrity" juries of nine people based in each Dutch province. Each juror awarded one point to his/her favourite song, with 99 points available in total. "De mallemolen" emerged the winner by a 5-point margin. At Eurovision On the night of the final Lester performed 3rd in the running order, following Monaco and preceding Austria. "De mallemolen" had been one of the front-runners in pre-contest betting, but at the close of voting had managed to muster only 35 points, placing the Netherlands 12th of the 18 entries. Evangelische Omroep (EO, English: ''Evangelical Broadcasting'') is one of the twelve member-based broadcasting associations contributing to the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. It has as its mission to bring people into contact with Jesus Christ and its statement of faith is a form of Evangelicalism. EO is one of the few broadcasting associations in the '' pillarized'' Dutch broadcasting system to have remained totally faithful to its religious roots. For a long time every one of its programs made reference to God and to the Christian religion, although this is less often the case in the 21st century. History EO was founded in 1967 by Christians, mainly Free Church members who were disappointed with the other Protestant broadcasting association, NCRV, for not putting more emphasis on its Christian inspiration. The film is based on the memoirs of Neel Doff (1858–1942) and was the most expensive Dutch film produced up to that time. The film was a box office success, being the number one film in the Netherlands for the year with 1.8 million admissions, and one of the top 10 most popular Dutch films of all time at the time. Plot The film begins in 1881 at Stavoren, a small Dutch rural town in the province of Friesland, and follows Katie's family to Amsterdam, where they hope to escape grinding poverty by finding work.
