Dick Mills (baseball)
Richard Alan Mills (January 29, 1945 – March 28, 2015) was a former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. Mills had originally been drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1965 amateur draft and by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the January 1966 draft, but did not sign with a Major League team until he was drafted by his hometown Boston Red Sox in June 1966. He made his Major League debut for Boston in 1970, coming into the sixth inning in relief of Chuck Hartenstein to finish an 8–2 blowout loss to the Cleveland Indians. His only other Major League appearance came in relief in another blowout, pitching two-thirds of an inning in an eventual 13–2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Mills is the father of Ryan Mills, who pitched for seven seasons in the Minnesota Twins minor league system. The elder Mills began a website about pitching and pitching instruction. Pitcher
In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. Mark Prior
Mark William Prior (born September 7, 1980) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current coach. A onetime top prospect of the Chicago Cubs, he pitched for the team from 2002 to 2006 in a career that was marred by injuries. In his prime, his repertoire of pitches included a mid-90s mph fastball, a curveball, and a changeup. He is currently the pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Prior engaged Tom House as his pitching tutor in high school. A career at the University of Southern California, where he won the Golden Spikes Award, saw him become one of the top prospects in the 2001 MLB draft, when he was the second overall pick by the Cubs. The Louisville Colonels were a Major League Baseball team that also played in the American Association (AA) throughout that league's ten-year existence from 1882 until 1891.
