Dick Matenje
Dick Matenje (died 1983) was a former Malawian politician and cabinet minister. He was the secretary-general of the Malawi Congress Party. He was one of the 'Mwanza Four' who mysteriously died during the Kamuzu Banda regime. Death Matenje was Minister of Finance from 1972 to 1978. He mysteriously died in 1983, along with ministers Twaibu Sangala, Aaron Gadama and Member of Parliament David Chiwanga. The four were collectively known as the ' Mwanza Four'. They were known to be critical of aspects of the totalitarian rule of Kamuzu Banda. They died mysteriously in 1983. Their death was ruled as a traffic accident by the Kamuzu Banda regime, although independent investigations indicate that this may have not the case. Steve Dick Tennyson Matenje (born 17 February 1956 in Zomba) is a Malawian civil servant and permanent representative. A civil servant since 1980, Matenje had served as previously as the Solicitor General and Secretary of Justice. He has been the Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Malawi since 30 November 2006. On September 10, 2010, Ambassador Matenje became Ambassador to the United States, with additional accreditation to Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia on a nonresidential basis. Cecilia Tamanda Kadzamira, DCVO (born 25 June 1938) was the official hostess of Malawi during the reign of Hastings Banda. Whilst she and Banda were not officially married, she served as the first lady or official hostess for several years. For several years, she was the most powerful woman in Malawi. Kadzamira, is referred to as "Mama", or "Mother of the Nation". Early life She was born near Nkhoma in Nyasaland. In her early years, the family moved to Southern Rhodesia and lived in Old Highfield, Salisbury (now Harare) where she attended school at Mbizi Primary. Mcwilliam Lunguzi
Maximiano Mcwilliam Lunguzi (c. 1946 - July 2, 1996) was an Inspector General of Police in Malawi. He was removed from his post by President Bakili Muluzi and reassigned as a diplomat without an explanation in a move that was challenged by the court and ruled unconstitutional. He was charged with conspiracy to commit murder together with John Tembo, Cecilia Kadzamira but was acquitted. He was alleged to have been involved in the Mwanza murders, in which three cabinet ministers and an MP were murdered in Mwanza. Lunguzi, John Tembo, Cecilia Kadzamira and police officers McDonald Kalemba and Leston Likawombe were charged with conspiracy to commit murder. They were all acquitted by Judge Mackson Mkandawire. Mwanza City, also known as Rock City to the residents, is a port city and capital of Mwanza Region on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. With an urban population of 1,182,000 in 2021, it is Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam.
