Dick Börjesson
Vice admiral (Sweden), Vice Admiral Dick Roland Börjesson (born 16 July 1938) is a Swedish Navy officer. He was Chief of Navy (Sweden), Chief of the Navy from 1990 to 1994 and military commander of the Middle Military District (Milo M) from 1994 to 1998. Early life Börjesson was born on 16 July 1938 in Strömstad, Sweden, the son of Arvid Börjesson and his wife Viola (née Larsson). Career Börjesson attended the Royal Swedish Naval Academy from 1958 to 1961. He finished first in his class at the graduation in 1961. He received a reward that was very rarely awarded, namely the Naval Academy's gold token and an honorary saber. He was commissioned as a naval officer with the rank of acting sub-lieutenant (''fänrik''). Börjesson was promoted to sub-lieutenant (''löjtnant'') in 1963 and from 1964 to 1965 he served aboard the cadet training vessel during her trip to South America, Central America and North America. Strömstad
Strömstad is a locality and the seat of Strömstad Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 6,288 inhabitants in 2010. For historical reasons, Strömstad is called a ''city'' despite its small population. MS ''Estonia'' was a cruiseferry built in 1980 at the West German shipyard Meyer Werft in Papenburg. In 1993, she was sold to Nordström & Thulin for use on Estline's Tallinn–Stockholm route. The ship's sinking on 28 September 1994, in the Baltic Sea between Sweden, Finland and Estonia, was one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters of the 20th century, claiming 852 lives. The official report concluded that the bow door had separated from the vessel, pulling the ramp ajar. The ship was already listing because of poor cargo distribution, and the list increased rapidly, flooding the decks and the cabins. Shortly, power failed altogether, inhibiting search and rescue, and a full-scale emergency was not declared for 90 minutes. Of the 989 on board, 138 were rescued.
