Dicapo Opera
Dicapo Opera Theatre was co-founded in 1981 by General Director Michael Capasso and Artistic Director Diane Martindale. It suspended operations in 2013. Programming and premieres Dicapo Opera Theatre’s presentations range from traditional repertoire to rarely performed operas, special opera-dance presentations, family events, and at least one contemporary work each season. Michael Capasso
Michael Capasso (born 1960) is an American opera impresario and stage director. Formerly the General Director of Dicapo Opera Theatre in New York City which he founded in 1981, he is presently the General Director of New York City Opera. Life and career According to Capasso, he fell in love with opera as a child when he saw Mario Lanza in ''The Great Caruso''. He studied voice at the Mannes College of Music in Manhattan and sang in amateur choruses and musicals but initially worked in the construction business, first for his uncle, and then with his own construction firm, HHM. In 1981, he founded New York's Dicapo Opera Theatre along with his high school music teacher Diane Martindale. He became the driving force behind the opera company's various projects and has directed most of its productions. Thérèse Raquin (opera)
''Thérèse Raquin'' is an American opera in two acts composed by Tobias Picker to a libretto by Gene Scheer based on the 1867 novel ''Thérèse Raquin'' by Émile Zola. It is Picker's third opera, following ''Emmeline'' (1996) and ''Fantastic Mr. Fox'' (1998). It was commissioned by the Dallas Opera, San Diego Opera, and the Opéra de Montréal. It premiered in November 2001. Turandot
''Turandot'' (; see below) is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, posthumously completed by Franco Alfano in 1926, and set to a libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni. ''Turandot'' best-known aria is "Nessun dorma", which became globally popular in the 1990s following Luciano Pavarotti's performance of it for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. ''Le Villi'' (''The Willis'' or ''The Fairies'') is an opera–ballet in two acts (originally one) composed by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Ferdinando Fontana, based on the short story "Les Willis" by Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr. Karr's story was in turn based in the Central European legend of the Vila, also used in the ballet ''Giselle''. The opera, in its original one-act version, was first performed at the Teatro Dal Verme, Milan, on 31 May 1884. ''Le Villi'' is Puccini's first stage work. Wendy Wasserstein (October 18, 1950 – January 30, 2006) was an American playwright. She was an Andrew Dickson White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University. Francesco Cilluffo
Francesco Cilluffo (born in Turin, Italy, January 1979) is an Italian conductor and composer. Education He graduated in Composition and Conducting with Gilberto Bosco from the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Turin after having completed a Music Degree from the University of Turin with a thesis about Benjamin Britten's '' Billy Budd''. In 2003 he moved to London, where he completed a PhD in Composition at the King's College London, after having been awarded a Master in Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
