Diarra
Diarra is a French translation of the clan name Jara used in West Africa, as a hangover from the French colonial empire in that region. It originates from the Bambara language word ''jara'', meaning lion, synonymous with waraba. The Kingdom of Diarra existed from the 7th Century until the 19th Century. The name is also frequently used with reference to the 18th to early 19th-century Bambara Empire in Ségou, Mali, which was ruled successively by Ngolo Diarra, his son Mansong (or Monzon) Diarra, and then his son Da Diarra. The clan name (or patronym) Jara/Diarra is related to another clan name, Koné, and is heard in many of the chronicles that have been handed down orally. Both are frequently praised together in song, signifying bravery and fearlessness. Alou Diarra (born 15 July 1981) is a French former professional footballer. He was a France international from 2004 until 2012. As of the 2022–23 season, he is the manager of Troyes' under-19 side in the Championnat National U19. Kingdom Of Diarra
Diarra, also referred to as Kingui or Kaniaga was a Soninke state in what is now northwestern Mali, centered around the town of Diarra. History Local histories recount that the Soninke came to the area of Diarra in the 7th century AD from Dia. The early kings of Diarra took the title 'Mana Maga.' When Koumbi Saleh, capital of the Ghana Empire was sacked by the Almoravid Empire in 1076, the Mana Maga broke away and established an independent state under the Niakhate dynasty. The kingdom became wealthy through trans-Saharan trade, controlling much of the southern parts of the former Wagadu (Ghana) Empire, and conquering Takrur. The Niakhate dynasty, however, gained a reputation for cruelty and tyranny. Abdoulaye Diarra (born 12 October 1986) is an Ivorian footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for Liga IV side CS Glogovăț. Mansong Diarra (–1808), also rendered Monzon Jara, was the faama of the Bambara Empire. Son of king Ngolo Diarra, he the throne of Ségou following his father's death in battle. Amadou Baba Diarra
Amadou Baba Diarra was a Malian politician and military figure. Diarra was the second vice president of ruling junta from 1968 to 1979. He was born ca. 1933 in Diena, in Koutiala Cercle. He volunteered in the French colonial army in 1953. He became second lieutenant in February 1965, and lieutenant two years later. Diarra was a member of the ruling junta which took power and ousted Modibo Keïta on 19 November 1968. Lieutenant Diarra was appointed second vice president of the junta. Ngolo Diarra
Ngolo Diarra was the king of the Bambara Empire from 1766 to 1795. Following the 1755 death of empire founder Bitòn Coulibaly, his descendants (the Bitonsi) proved unable to maintain control, the kingdom fell briefly into chaos. Ngolo Diarra, a freed slave, seized the throne in 1766 and soon restored order. Ségou
Ségou (; bm, ߛߋߓߎ, italic=no, ) is a town and an urban commune in south-central Mali that lies northeast of Bamako on the right bank of the River Niger.
