Diarmuid Ó Suilleabháin
Diarmuid Ó Suilleabháin, also known as "Diarmuidín" was a sean-nós singer and broadcast journalist from Cúil Aodha in the Muskerry Gaeltacht, County Cork, Ireland. He was a broadcaster for Raidió na Gaeltachta. He died in a car accident in 1991, and a posthumous album of sean nós songs, ''Bruach na Carraige Báine'', was released in 1995. A music and singing festival, Éigse Dhiarmuid Uí Súilleabháin, was setup in his honour and has been running in the Cúil Aodha and Baile Mhúirne area in the Muskerry Gaeltacht every year since his death. The festival organising committee, to mark the 30th year of Éigse Dhiarmuid Uí Súilleabháin, in 2022 released a new album of Diarmuidín's songs titled 'Diarmuidín'. The 20 track album features previously released material as well as 7 new tracks that had never before been published. Cúil Aodha
Cúil Aodha (), anglicised as Coolea, is a townland and village in the Gaeltacht region of Muskerry in County Cork, Ireland. The area is near the source of the River Sullane in the Derrynasaggart Mountains. Geography Cúil Aodha townland is in the civil parish of Ballyvourney, and is an official Gaeltacht area, where the Irish language is used alongside English. The village of Cúil Aodha is close to a number of wind farms which are located on the mountains which mark the border between County Cork and County Kerry. The area is mountainous and is led to by mainly narrow roadways. Cúil Aodha lies within the Cork North-West Dáil constituency. According to the 2016 census, of the 216 people living in Cúil Aodha and the small area surrounding it, 86% were able to speak Irish. In the Gort na Tiobratan electoral division, in which the village is located, 45% of that population (353 people) stated that they speak Irish on a daily basis outside the education system. Dún Chaoin
Dunquin ( ) is a Gaeltacht village in west County Kerry, Ireland. Dunquin lies at the most westerly tip of the Dingle Peninsula, overlooking the Blasket Islands. At 10°27'16"W, it is the most westerly settlement of Ireland and of Eurasia, excluding Iceland. Nearby Dunmore Head is the most westerly point of mainland Ireland. The town is linked to Dingle via the R559 regional road. In summer a ferry connects the village with the main island of the Blasket Islands. Sean-nós Singing
Sean-nós singing ( , ; Irish for "old style") is unaccompanied traditional Irish vocal music usually performed in the Irish language. Sean-nós singing usually involves very long melodic phrases with highly ornamented and melismatic melodic lines, differing greatly from traditional folk singing elsewhere in Ireland, although there is significant regional variation within Ireland. Sean-nós songs cover a range of genres, from love song to lament to lullaby, traditionally with a strong focus on conveying the relevant emotion of the given song. The term ''sean-nós'', which simply means "in the old way", is a vague term that can also refer to various other traditional activities, musical and non-musical. RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta (; "Radio of the Gaeltacht"), abbreviated RnaG, is an Irish language radio station owned and operated by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). Nell Ní Chróinín
Nell Ní Chróinín (; born 1990) is an Irish sean-nós singer from the Muskerry Gaeltacht in County Cork. Sean-Nós Ní Chróinín is originally from the Irish townland An Choill Mhór (Cuilmore), from the Irish-speaking town of Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh, although her family is originally from the nearby village Cúil Aodha Her interest in sean-nós singing arose after attending her first Oireachtas na Gaeilge event when she was ten years old. In her own words, "It was a result of the Oireachtas that I was given a chance to meet with some of the greatest singers, dancers, poets, composers and characters who have now passed on". In the following year, Ní Chróinín started singing lessons, and was particularly influenced by local singers such as Máire Ní Chéilleachair and Eoiní Maidhcí Ó Suilleabháin, from whom she was able to learn her songs.
