Portuguese ( or, in full, ) is a western Romance language of the Indo-European language family, originating in the Iberian Peninsula of Europe. The ''Diário Oficial da União'' (literally ''Official Journal of the Union''), abbreviated DOU, is the official journal of the federal government of Brazil. It is published since 1 October 1862 and was created via the imperial decree 1.177, of September 9 of the same year, as the ''Official Journal of the Empire of Brazil''. Its current name was adopted after Brazil became a federal republic, and the “Union” came into being as the legal personality of the new federal government. The ''Official Journal of the Republic of Chile'' ( es, Diario Oficial de la República de Chile) is Chile's government gazette – a means of publication of laws, decrees, and other legal regulations issued by state bodies. It was created by decree of President Aníbal Pinto on 15 November 1876. Its first issue was published on 1 March 1877. The ''Official Journal'' appears Monday through Saturday, except holidays.
