Wallace A. Worsley, Sr. (December 8, 1878 – March 26, 1944) was an American stage actor who became a film director in the silent era. During his career, Worsley directed 29 films and acted in 7 films. He directed several motion pictures starring Lon Chaney Sr., and his professional relationship with the actor was the best Chaney had, second to his partnership with Tod Browning. ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' (1923) is one of his best-known works, along with '' The Penalty'' (1920). Worsley's 1922 horror film ''A Blind Bargain'' with Chaney is one of the most sought after lost films. Acting In April 1901 Worsely appeared at the Empire Theatre (41st Street) as Lt. Early life Rich was born in Buffalo, New York. At age 17, she wed Elvo Elcourt Deffenbaugh at All Saints' Cathedral in Spokane, Washington on February 17, 1909, after her parents talked about sending her to boarding school. The couple had one child, born Irene Frances Luther Deffenbaugh, who later adopted her stepfather's surname and was a stage and film actress in the 1930s known as Frances Rich before becoming a noted sculptor. Harry von Meter (March 20, 1871 – June 2, 1956; sometimes credited Harry van Meter) was an American silent film actor. He starred in about 200 films in the period from 1912 through 1929. He retired from acting just as sound films were beginning. Born in Malta Bend, Missouri, von Meter was signed by the Thanhouser Company based in New Rochelle, New York in 1912, moving to American Film Studios a year or two later.
