Dianazene
Dianazene was the name given by L. Ron Hubbard to a vitamin compound containing iron, vitamin C, and various B vitamins, including especially large doses of niacin. Hubbard promoted it as a form of protection against radiation poisoning during the 1950s, saying that "Dianazene runs out radiation — or what appears to be radiation. It also proofs a person against radiation in some degree. It also turns on and runs out incipient cancer." In 1958, the Food and Drug Administration seized and destroyed 21,000 Dianazene tablets from the Distribution Center Inc., a company with ties to the Church of Scientology, because they were falsely labeled as a preventative and treatment for radiation sickness. ''All About Radiation'' is one of the L. Ron Hubbard bibliography, books by L. Ron Hubbard that form the canonical texts of Scientology, although it is no longer promoted by the Church of Scientology nor included in their "Basics" book canon. Its first printing was from HASI (Hubbard Association of Scientologists International) by way of the Speedwell Printing Company, Kent, England, 1957. Later editions were published by the Church of Scientology's in-house publisher Bridge Publications (Scientology), Bridge Publications. The book is controversial for its claims, amongst other things, that radiation poisoning, and even cancer, can be cured by courses of vitamins. There is no known cure for radiation poisoning, and current medical practice is to provide palliative care until the symptoms subside or the patient dies. Vitamin B3, colloquially referred to as niacin, is a vitamin family that includes three forms or vitamers: niacin (nicotinic acid), nicotinamide (niacinamide), and nicotinamide riboside. All three forms of vitamin B3 are converted within the body to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD is required for human life and people are unable to make it within their bodies without either vitamin B3 or tryptophan. Nicotinamide riboside was identified as a form of vitamin B3 in 2004.
