Dhaka Polytechnic Institute ( bn, ঢাকা পলিটেকনিক ইনস্টিটিউট, also known as DPI) is a government technical institute in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the largest and the oldest polytechnic academia in modern Bangladesh. The polytechnic is ranked number one on the Bangladesh Polytechnic Ranking 2018. History "East Pakistan Polytechnic Institute, Dacca" was established in May 1955 by Oklahoma State University-Stillwater with funding from the Ford Foundation. By the mid-1960s, it had become "Dacca Polytechnic Institute". Shaheed Minar, Dhaka
The Shaheed Minar ( bn, শহীদ মিনার ''Shohid Minar'' lit. "Martyr Monument") is a national monument in Dhaka, Bangladesh, established to commemorate those killed during the Bengali Language Movement demonstrations of 1952 in then East Pakistan. On 21 and 22 February 1952, students from Dhaka University and Dhaka Medical College and political activists were killed when the Pakistani police force opened fire on Bengali protesters who were demanding official status for their native tongue, Bengali. The massacre occurred near Dhaka Medical College and Ramna Park in Dhaka. A makeshift monument was erected on 23 February by students of Dhaka medical college and other educational institutions, but soon demolished on 26 February by the Pakistani police force. Mamunur Rashid
Mamunur Rashid (born 29 February 1948) is a Bangladeshi actor, director and scriptwriter. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2012 and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1982 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life and education Rashid was born on 29 February 1948 in the village Bhabandatta under Ghatail Upazila in Tangail District. He is the eldest of five siblings. He completed his SSC from Bolla Coronation High School. Career Rashid moved to Dhaka in 1963. Rashid started writing drama plays in the 1960s. He founded Aranyak in 1972. Sultanuddin Ahmed
Sultanuddin Ahmed is an engineer who was killed in the Bangladesh Liberation war and is considered a martyr in Bangladesh. Early life Ahmed was born in Sarkarpara, Brahmanbaria District in 1935. He graduated from Chandpur High School in 1950 and graduated from Dhaka Ahsanullah Engineering College in 1959 with BSc in engineering. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a MS degree in technical education. Career Ahmed joined the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute in 1959 as an instructor. He was promoted in 1965 to principal and transferred to Faridpur Technical Institute. He went to the United States for further studies, and returned in March 1968 to join the Jessore Polytechnic Institute as principal.
