Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport ( bn, হযরত শাহ্জালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দর, Romanized: ''Hôzrôt Shahjalal Antôrjatik Bimanbôndôr'') ( formerly VGZR) is the largest international airport in Bangladesh. Uttara Model Town or simply Uttara ( bn, উত্তরা) is a suburb of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The name derives from the Bengali word ''uttar'' meaning "north". It lies on the road to Gazipur, and adjoins Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. History Planning In 1966, Dhaka Improvement Trust planned to build a satellite town under ''North Satellite Town project'' in Dhaka District. Airport Road ( bn, বিমানবন্দর সড়ক), also known as Tongi Diversion Road, a part of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (N3), is an 8-lane major artery road in Dhaka, that connects Dhaka city, with the Shahjalal International Airport. It is also the main artery that connects Dhaka with the northern suburb of Uttara and the only road that connects Dhaka with northern Districts of Bangladesh and vice versa.
