Ó Daimhín or Ní Dhaimhín is one of several surnames derived from the Irish Gaelic that are now rendered in English as Devine. The root of this name is "''damh''", which according to Dineen means an "ox or a Stag". It is also used figuratively as "hero". Confusingly, scholars in the 19th and early 20th centuries sometimes thought it was derived from "''dámh''", meaning a bard or poet but this is no longer accepted. David Devine (athlete)
David Devine (born 13 February 1992) is a British Paralympic athlete. Devine competes in T12 and T13 middle-distance track events, and has represented Great Britain in both the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships and the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Career history Devine was born in Liverpool, England in 1992. Devine, who has a visual impairment, took up athletics after attending the DSE Championships in Blackpool in 2008. He joined local athletics club, Liverpool Harriers, and began entering local youth meets, running in the 400 metres. By 2009 Devine was entering both 400m and 800m events, winning at both distances in events in Britain and Europe. By the end of the year he had recorded a personal best of 51.90s in the 400m at the IBSA Open European Championships in Rhodes and a 1:58.23 in the 800m at the German Disability Championships in Sindlefingen. Jim Devine
James Devine (born 21 May 1953) is a former Member of Parliament. He was the Labour Party member for Livingston from 2005 until 2010 and Chairman of the Scottish Labour Party between 1994 and 1995. On 16 June 2009, following the 2009 expenses scandal, he was barred by the Labour Party from seeking re-election at the 2010 general election, after reports he claimed expenses for work on his home from a non-existent firm. He was convicted of false accounting on 10 February 2011 and sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment on 31 March 2011. William John Devine (February 22, 1919 – April 27, 1989) was a Canadian ice hockey administrator and radio sports commentator. He worked for CJBQ radio in Belleville, Ontario for 40 years as the sports director. He was involved with the local sports scene, and was president of the Ontario Hockey Association from 1967 to 1969. He moved up to the national level in 1969 becoming vice-president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) in 1969, and later served as its president from 1973 to 1975. Devine was president of the CAHA during a period when the National Hockey League and the World Hockey Association were competing for junior ice hockey players. He spent significant time over two years negotiating the drafting and development agreements with the respective professional leagues. Donald Grant Devine, SOM (born July 5, 1944) was the 11th premier of Saskatchewan from May 8, 1982 to November 1, 1991.
