D. Devaraj Urs Road is the most prominent shopping street of Mysore city in Karnataka state, India. This street is also the center of the downtown or the Central business district area in the city. In post office parlance, Devaraj Urs road is known as Mysore One. History This street was named after Devaraj Urs, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka. He was a popular chief minister and a reformist. This area was formerly called Devaraja Mohalla and a weekly market was regularly conducted here. The location of the market became the present Devaraja Market. Location Devaraj Urs road is about one mile in length. There are many parallel roads connecting to Devaraj Urs Road and a total of two square kilometer area makes up the downtown of Mysore city. The street has an east–west orientation. Urs (from ''‘Urs'') or ''Urus'' (literal meaning wedding), is the death anniversary of a Sufi saint, usually held at the saint's dargah (shrine or tomb). In most Sufi orders such as Naqshbandiyyah, Suhrawardiyya, Chishtiyya, Qadiriyya, etc. the concept of Urs exists and is celebrated with enthusiasm. The devotees refer to their saints as lovers of God, the beloved. Urs rituals are generally performed by the custodians of the shrine or the existing Shaikh of the silsila. The celebration of Urs ranges from Hamd to Naat and in many cases includes the singing of religious music such as qawwali. The celebration also features food samples, bazaar, and various kinds of shops. The Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Dargah Sharif in Ajmer attracts more than 400,000 devotees each year and is regarded as one of the most famous urs festivals around the world. Devaraj Devaraj Urs (20 August 1915 – 6 June 1982) was an Indian politician who served two terms as the eighth Chief Minister of Karnataka (1972–77, 1978–80), a state in southern India. He is also the longest serving Chief Minister of Karnataka in terms of days of tenure in office. He entered politics in 1952 and was an MLA for 10 years. When the Indian National Congress split in 1969 as Samstha ( Congress(O)) and Indira Congress ( Congress (R)), he stood with Indira Gandhi. Devaraja Market
"Devarāja" was the religious order of the "god-king," or deified monarch in medieval Southeast Asia. The devarāja order grew out of both Hinduism and separate local traditions depending on the area. It taught that the king was a divine universal ruler, a manifestation of Bhagawan (often attributed to Shiva or Vishnu). The concept viewed the monarch to possess transcendental quality, the king as the living god on earth. The concept is closely related to the Bharati concept of Chakravartin (universal monarch). In politics, it is viewed as the divine justification of a king's rule. Dewan's Road, officially known as Seshadri Iyer Road is an important main street in downtown Mysore city, Karnataka state, India.
