Deus Arrakis
''Deus Arrakis'' is the forty-seventh album by Klaus Schulze. It was released on 1 July 2022. It is the final album Schulze made before he died of renal failure in April 2022. The album was inspired by the 1965 Frank Herbert science-fiction novel '' Dune'', and instigated by Schulze's recent collaboration with Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack for Denis Villeneuve's 2021 film adaptation. ''Dune'' was a longtime source of fascination for Schulze; he also made an album in 1979 inspired by the book, as well as a song for Herbert on his 1978 work '' X'', a concept album of six "musical biographies." Reception Steve Krakow of the Chicago Reader said that Schulze sounded "newly energized" on ''Deus Arrakis'', and praised the "pure-synth space daze" of the music, which includes several long, ambient soundscapes including the 32-minute "Seth." Klaus Schulze
Klaus Schulze (4 August 1947 – 26 April 2022) was a German electronic music pioneer, composer and musician. He also used the alias Richard Wahnfried and was a member of the Krautrock bands Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, and The Cosmic Jokers before launching a solo career consisting of more than 60 albums released across six decades. Early life Schulze was born in Berlin in 1947. His father was a writer and his mother a ballet dancer. After graduating from high school, he delivered telegrams and studied German at the Technical University of Berlin. He and his wife Elfie had two sons, Maximilian and Richard. Career 1970s In 1969, Schulze was the drummer of one of the early incarnations of Tangerine Dream - one of the most famous bands that got the nickname "Krautrock" in English speaking countries (others included Kraftwerk and Popul Vuh) - for their debut album ''Electronic Meditation''. ''Dune'' is the eleventh album by Klaus Schulze. It was originally released in 1979, and in 2005 was the tenth Schulze album reissued by Revisited Records. "Shadows of Ignorance" features Arthur Brown on vocals, half-singing/half-chanting a long poem written by Schulze. The cover photograph was taken by Schulze himself, who arranged black letters on a television screen and took a snapshot during a scene of the Soviet science fiction film ''Solaris''. Wolfgang is a German male given name traditionally popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The name is a combination of the Old High German words ''wolf'', meaning "wolf", and ''gang'', meaning "path", "journey", "travel".
