Detroit Titans Men's Basketball
The Detroit Mercy Titans men's basketball team is the college basketball team that represents University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan, and competes in NCAA Division I men's basketball as a member of the Horizon League. Traditionally, the Titans have been a fairly strong "mid-major" program, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 1977 and to the Round of 32 twice during the 1990s. The Titans are currently coached by Mike Davis, who was hired on June 13, 2018. The Titans play their home games at Calihan Hall on the school's McNichols Campus. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Its most recent membership changes occurred on July 1, 2022 with the departure of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to the Missouri Valley Conference. The Horizon League does not sponsor football. The 2015–16 Detroit Titans men's basketball team represented the University of Detroit Mercy during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Ray McCallum in his eighth season. The Titans played their home games at Calihan Hall and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 16–15, 9–9 in Horizon League play to finish in sixth place. They defeated Youngstown State in the first round of the Horizon League tournament to advance to the second round where they lost to Wright State. On April 1, head coach Ray McCallum was fired. 2013 National Invitation Tournament
The 2013 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2013 NCAA tournament. The annual tournament began on March 19 on campus sites and ended on April 4 at Madison Square Garden. Baylor defeated Iowa, 74–54, to capture the Bears its first NIT title in school history. Participants Automatic qualifiers The following teams earned automatic berths into the 2013 NIT field by virtue of winning their conferences' regular season championship, but failing to win their conference tournament. The 2011–12 Detroit Titans men's basketball team represented the University of Detroit Mercy in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by fourth year coach Ray McCallum, the Titans played their home games at Calihan Hall as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 22–14 overall, 11–7 in Horizon League play, and finished in a three-way tied for third place. Playing in the Horizon League tournament as the No. 3 seed, they defeated Loyola (IL), Youngstown State, and Cleveland State to advance to the championship game.
