Destinazione Piovarolo
''Destination Piovarolo'' ( it, Destinazione Piovarolo) is a 1955 Italian comedy film directed by Domenico Paolella. Plot summary In 1922, during Fascism, Antonio La Quaglia accepts the assignment to the station master in a remote town called Piovarolo, because that's where it always rains. Antonio soon realizes that life in the small village is sad, because the inhabitants are all old, deluded, dying, without hope. Antonio so hopefully he will be moved to a larger city; but the years pass and Antonio holds the same job. One day he sees off the train a beautiful lady, who does the primary school teacher. Soon the two get married and start a family, but always Antonio wants to get away from Piovarolo, but politics and the ministry do not care at all about him. Domenico Paolella
Domenico Paolella (18 October 1915 - 7 October 2002) was an Italian director, screenwriter and journalist. Born in Foggia, between 1933 and 1935 Paolella won several contests for amateur directors; in the same years he started working as a journalist for several newspapers and magazines. In 1937 he entered the film industry as assistant of Carmine Gallone for ''Scipio the African'', and the following year made his debut as a director of short films. During the war he was correspondent from the Soviet front. From 1946 to 1951 he was artistic director and chief editor of the INCOM newsreel production company. In 1939 Paolella directed his first feature film, ''The Last of the Road''. In subsequent years, he first directed a series of musical films of great success produced by Carlo Infascelli, then he specialized in the comic genre. Alessandra Panaro (14 December 1939 – 1 May 2019) was an Italian film actress of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Panaro is best known for her films in the early 1960s, notably Luchino Visconti's crime drama '' Rocco e i suoi fratelli'' in 1960. Life and career Born in Rome into a wealthy family, Panaro studied acting under Teresa Franchini. She made her film debut at 16 years old, and got a large success in 1956 thanks to the Dino Risi's comedy film '' Poor, But Handsome'', then specializing in romantic comedies. In 1957–8, together with her ''Poor, But Handsome'' co-star Lorella De Luca, she assisted Mario Riva in presenting the popular RAI game show ''Il Musichiere''. Personal life Panaro was first married to the Italian-Egyptian banker Jean-Pierre Sabet. Widowed, in 1992 she married the actor Giancarlo Sbragia.
