Destination Docklands
Destination Docklands was an event consisting of two concerts by musician Jean-Michel Jarre on the Royal Victoria Docks, Docklands, London on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9 October 1988, to coincide with the release of Jarre's new album ''Revolutions''. The concerts were attended by 100,000 people on each night. Accompanied by fireworks and a light show, the concert also featured The Shadows guitarist Hank Marvin who joined Jarre on the tracks "London Kid" and "Fourth Rendez-Vous". The show was intended to show a history of the area, with tracks dedicated to the industrial revolution, swinging sixties (with Hank Marvin), and future regeneration of the area. The concert's scale was larger than any seen in the UK before or since, and used vast numbers of fireworks, World War II searchlights, and used entire buildings as giant projection screens throughout the show. ExCeL Exhibition Centre
ExCeL London (an abbreviation for Exhibition Centre London) is an exhibition centre, international convention centre and former hospital in the Custom House area of Newham, East London. It is situated on a site on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Dock in London Docklands, located between Canary Wharf and London City Airport History The centre was designed by Moxley Architects and built by Sir Robert McAlpine. Francis Rimbert
Francis Rimbert (born 3 October 1952 in Val d'Oise, France) is a French musician and composer. Biography Francis Rimbert started playing classical piano when he was 5 years old. At the conservatory, he studied harmony, counterpoint, the fugue and orchestral leading. He won first prize in piano and moved onto Paris where he became a salesman, working in a music store which by chance imported synthesizers, at a time when nobody has sold such before. He became interested in those electronic instruments and took the stage (Theatre des Champs Elysées – Paris) solo, surrounded by all his synthesizers (''Bionic Orchestra'', 1979). Rimbert met another proponent of the synthesizer: Jean-Michel Jarre, through a mutual friend Michel Geiss, in 1979 at Jarre's concert in Place de La Concorde, Paris. Dominique Perrier
Space Art is a French electronic music duo consisting of Dominique Perrier on keyboards and late French drummer Roger "Bunny" Rizzitelli. The band had its main commercial success between 1977 and 1981. History Formation In 1974, Dominique Perrier had been working as an arranger with Christophe, for whom Roger "Bunny" Rizzitelli had been drumming. Christophe brought an ARP Odyssey synthesizer, which was used mainly as a metronome, into the studio. Christophe then lent the synthesizer to Perrier for two years, during which time the band was born. According to Perrier, he originally preferred to name the band Moon but, after a trip to a funfair, Rizzitelli suggested an alternative; one of the fair attractions had been named after Spessart, the German mountain range. ''Jarre Live'', later re-released as ''Destination Docklands: The London Concert'', is a live album by Jean-Michel Jarre, released on 2 October 1989 on Disques Dreyfus. It was recorded during Jarre's Destination Docklands concerts of 1988, which consisted of two London concerts in England; this was the first time the docklands district of London and the river Thames became the scenery for a concert. The concerts featured performances of all the tracks from Jarre's recent album Revolutions, alongside performances of tracks from his previous albums. Hank Marvin of the Shadows was a special guest on guitar, performing on the tracks London Kid and Rendez-Vous 4. There were 6 tracks performed at concerts but not included on the album - Équinoxe 5, Équinoxe 7, Rendez-Vous 3, Souvenir of China, Ethnicolor and Tokyo Kid. London Fire Brigade
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) is the fire and rescue service for London, the capital of the United Kingdom. It was formed by the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Act 1865, under the leadership of superintendent Eyre Massey Shaw. It has 5,992staff, including 5,096 operational firefighters and officers based at 102 fire stations (plus one river station).
