Desportivo da Praia is a football club that currently plays in the Premier division and the Santiago Island League (South) in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago. It is the military team of Cape Verde. Its nickname is ''militares''. The team won the first and only regional opening tournament in 2014. Its logo has a blue circle with the acronym GDCP in the middle and a large D on the right and the club name on the right. Its uniform color features a blue clothing with a T-shirt with white stripes in the middle for home games and a white T-shirt with the remainder blue for away games. Santiago South Cup
The Santiago South Zone Cup (Portuguese: ''Copa da Ilha de Santiago Sul'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Kopa da dja di Santiagu Sul'') is the oldest regional cup competition in Cape Verde and is played during the season in the south of island of Santiago, Cape Verde consisting the municipalities of Praia, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and São Domingos. It consists of all the clubs from all the two regional divisions and are divided into about six rounds. The cup competition is organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Santiago Sul, ARFSS). The cup winner competed in the regional super cup final in the following season. Since 2007, the winner qualifies into the Cape Verdean Cup which were canceled from 2012 to 2017 due to financial and scheduling reasons. 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 37th beginner level (likely amateur) competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. It started on 14 May and finished on 9 July, it started five days later than last season and finished two days earlier, the season was a week shorter than last. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The scheduling was completed on November 16 and the group system was kept instead of becoming a one portion season without playoffs and was the last time. 2013 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2013 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 34th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 11 May and finished on 13 July, slightly earlier than last year. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. CS Mindelense won the ninth title. They did not participate in the 2014 CAF Champions League. In 2014, Mindelense would become the second and most recent club to win both the cup and the super cup title in the same season. The Santiago South Opening Tournament or the Association Cup (Portuguese: ''Torneio de Abertura de Santiago Sul'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Turnéu di Abertura di Santiagu Sul''), is an opening tournament competition (equivalent to a league cup used in other countries) played during the season in the south of Santiago, Cape Verde consisting the municipalities of Praia, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and São Domingos. Santiago Island League
The Santiago Island League was a regional championship played in all of Santiago Island until 2002 when it was broken up into two present divisions, the North and the South zones, Cape Verde. It formed a part of the Santiago Regional Football Association (''Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago, ARFS'') The winner of the championship had played in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season. The island league was one of the two oldest in Cape Verde. Until the 1960s, the league included clubs from the entire southern portion of Cape Verde and functioned as a regional league. Estádio Da Várzea
Estádio da Várzea is a multi-purpose stadium in Praia, Cape Verde just west of the city center's plateau in the subdivision of Várzea and on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa on its east side. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000 people. The stadium is owned by the city of Praia and is operated by the Santiago South Regional Football Association and serves its headquarters of the association. The other stadium operated by the association in the south of the island is Calabaceira. The entrance is on the west side of the stadium where most of the seat is. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides, 200 meters east is the Plateau of Praia. Its size is 108 by 69 m, the longest part of the field goes north to south with a 15 degree angle facing east at the top. Its elevation is about 4 meters above sea level.
