Despina Vandi
Despina Vandi - ΣΤΑ 'ΔΩΣΑ ΟΛΑΑ ( el, Δέσποινα Βανδή, ), born as Despina Malea () on 22 July 1969, is a Greek singer. Born in Tübingen near Stuttgart, Germany, Vandi's family returned to Kavala, Greece when she was six years old. After moving to Athens in the early 1990s, Vandi signed with Minos EMI and released two albums ''Gela Mou'' (1994) and ''Esena Perimeno'' (1996). She then began an exclusive collaboration with songwriter/music producer, producer Phoebus (songwriter), Phoebus and struck commercial success with her third album, ''Deka Endoles'' (1997), followed by the multi-platinum ''Profities'' (1999), as she established a more "pop" stage performance style and image, becoming one of the most prominent artists of the laïko/pop genre. Naxos (island)
Naxos (; el, Νάξος, ) is a Greek island and the largest of the Cyclades. It was the centre of archaic Cycladic culture. The island is famous as a source of emery, a rock rich in corundum, which until modern times was one of the best abrasives available. Come Along Now
"Come Along Now" is a song by Greek singer Despina Vandi released by Heaven Music in 2004. In the spring of 2004, Phoebus teamed up with Coca-Cola to compose the tune that will accompany all of Coca-Cola’s activities in its Olympic sponsorship agreement. Phoebus composed the song "Come Along Now" with Despina Vandi singing it, and the tune was heard all around the world in Coca-Cola's ads. Music video The music video for "Come Along Now" was once again directed by Kostas Kapetanidis. It features Vandi in three different scenes: posing in a photoshoot, lying down, and caught in a rope animal trap. The other scene in the video is of people dancing in a club, with frequent advertisements for Coca-Cola. Phoebus makes a cameo appearance in the video overseeing Vandi's photoshoot. Manos Loïzos
Manos Loïzos ( el, Μάνος Λοΐζος; 1937–1982) was one of the most important Greek music composers of the 20th century. Biography He was born on 22 October 1937 to Greek Cypriot immigrants in Alexandria, Egypt. His parents came from the small village of Agioi Vavatsinias, in the district of Larnaca, Cyprus. Loizos moved to Athens at the age of 17 intending to study pharmacology but soon gave up his studies in order to concentrate on his musical career. He was a self-taught musician, with no formal musical arts training. His first recordings were made in 1963 but he started gaining a larger audience after 1967. By 1975 Loizos had become one of the most popular artists in Greek music. He died on 17 September 1982 in a hospital in Moscow, Soviet Union after suffering several strokes. Evangelia (Lina) Nikolakopoulou (Λίνα Νικολακοπούλου) is widely recognised as one of the foremost lyricists in Greece. She was born in Methana on 30 June 1958 and studied social and political sciences at the Panteion University in Athens. Stavros Xarchakos, Greek: Σταύρος Ξαρχάκος (born 14 March 1939) is a Greek composer and conductor. Biography Stavros Xarchakos was born in Athens, where he studied at the Athens Conservatoire. He has family origins from the Mani Peninsula. He emerged in the Greek music scene around 1963, composing music for the theatre and cinema. Among his collaborators was lyricist Lefteris Papadopoulos and singer Nikos Xylouris. In 1967 he went to Paris to study with Nadia Boulanger. He stayed in Paris for four years, and then studied with David Diamond at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He served as director of the National Orchestra of Greek Music. Stylianós Vlavianós ( el, Στυλιανός Βλαβιανός), often called Stélios Vlavianós, (born 7 July 1947) is a Greek composer, musical arranger, a member of the Sacem and the SACD, among others. Biography Vlavianós was born in Athens. His musical apprenticeship began at the age of 3 with his father Stefanos Vlavianos, a musician with the Athens Radio Orchestra (trombonist) and an eclectic theorist. At the age of 10, he entered the Greek National Conservatory in Maria Hatjopoulou's piano class. He was later a student with French composer Pierre Petit, then director of the École Normale de Musique de Paris. The master taught him counterpoint, fugue, harmony, composition, orchestration for more than a dozen years before dying prematurely. In the 1970s, he composed songs for artists such as Demis Roussos, Shirley Bassey, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Al Martino. Giannis Spanos
Ioannes "Giannis" Spanos ( el, Ιωάννης "Γιάννης" Σπανός, ; 26 July 1934 – 30 October 2019), also transliterated as Yannis Spanos, was a Greek music composer and lyricist. In his early days as a musician he was also a piano accompanist. Spanos won the music prize at the 1971 Thessaloniki Film Festival for composing the score of the film '' Ekeino to kalokairi''. Biography Spanos was born in Kiato in 1934. His father was a dentist. Spanos was influenced by his sister's piano studies, and moved to Athens at the age of 17 to study at the National Odeum where he learned to play the piano. Pythagoras Papastamatiou ( el, Πυθαγόρας Παπασταματίου, 12 April 1930 – November 12, 1979), mainly known by the mononym Pythagoras, was a Greek lyricist and playwright. Biography He was born in 1930 in Agrinio where he lived until he became 18 years old. His family was descended from Samos. His parents met each other in Smyrna (now Izmir, Turkey), shortly before the Asia Minor Catastrophe. Lefteris Papadopoulos
Lefteris (Eleftherios) Papadopoulos ( el, Λευτέρης Παπαδόπουλος) is a Greek lyricist, writer and journalist. Lefteris Papadopoulos was born in Athens, Greece on 14 November 1935. He is the son of Greek refugees, with a father from a village near Bursa in today's Turkey and a mother from a village near Novorossiysk in Russia. His parents were expelled in 1924 during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey. He enrolled at the Law School of the University of Athens but stopped during his third year in order to work as a journalist. Since 1959 Papadopoulos has worked in the newspaper Ta Nea and has become a popular columnist over time. Papadopoulos became involved with music in 1963.
