Desirable (film)
''Desirable'' is a 1934 American drama film directed by Archie Mayo and starring Jean Muir (actress), Jean Muir and George Brent. It was released by Warner Bros. The film follows the story of Lois (Jean Muir (actress), Jean Muir), the 19-year-old daughter of a famous actress (Verree Teasdale), who has been hidden away at boarding school to protect her mother's image. A scarlet fever, scarlet-fever quarantine sends her home to New York City, full of innocent enthusiasm, only to be betrayed by her mother, by the arrogant egotists of her mother's theatrical world and by the haughty social snobs in the upper-crust family whose son her mother persuades her to marry. Mac (George Brent), a friend of her mother's, initially plays an avuncular role. By the end of the film, Lois and Mac realize that they are in love. Archie Mayo
Archibald L. Mayo (January 29, 1891 – December 4, 1968) was a film director, screenwriter and actor. Early years The son of a tailor, Mayo was born in New York City. After attending the city's public schools, he studied at Columbia University. Film Mayo moved to Hollywood in 1915 and began working as a director in 1917. His films include ''Is Everybody Happy? Charles Starrett
Charles Robert Starrett (March 28, 1903 – March 22, 1986) was an American actor, best known for his starring role in the ''Durango Kid'' westerns. Starrett still holds the record for starring in the longest series of theatrical features: 131 westerns, all produced by Columbia Pictures. Early years Starrett was born in Athol, Massachusetts, where his grandfather had built a prosperous tool works. He attended Worcester Academy, then graduated from Dartmouth College. Career A graduate of Worcester Academy in 1922, Starrett went on to study at Dartmouth College. While on the Dartmouth football team he was hired to play a football extra in the film ''The Quarterback'' (1926). Virginia Hammond
Virginia Hammond (August 20, 1893 – April 6, 1972) was an American film and theatre actress. Born in Staunton, Virginia. Hammond was the daughter of a Confederate army major. Hammond began her career in 1907, where she made her theatre debut in the Broadway play, titled, ''John the Baptist''. She continued her career, mainly appearing on theatre, in which her credits includes, ''Our American Cousin'', ''The Famous Mrs. Fair'', ''Tumble In'', ''What's Your Husband Doing?'', ''The Man Who Came to Dinner'', ''Arsene Lupin'', ''What the Doctor Ordered'' and ''Desert Sands'', among others.
