''Deserted'' is a 2016 American psychological thriller film directed by Ashley Avis and starring Mischa Barton, Trent Ford, Winter Ave Zoli, Jackson Davis, Kelly Brannigan, Lance Henriksen, Jake Busey, Gerry Bednob and Dana Rosendorff. The plot focuses on when twenty-four-year-old Jae (Barton) is released from prison and returns to her childhood home in small-town Ridgecrest. Once reunited with her brother, (Davis), she joins him and some friends on a road trip to a music festival in Death Valley, resulting in them getting hopelessly lost and fighting to survive the elements. The film was written by Avis. It premiered in October, 2016 at The Crest Theater formerly known as Majestic Crest Theater." The film was released by Invincible Pictures on February 28, 2017. Ashley Avis (born January 27, 1987) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer. Her credits include the feature films '' Deserted'' (2016), ''Adolescence'' (2018), and ''Black Beauty'' (2020) starring Kate Winslet and Mackenzie Foy. Early life Avis was born in Chicago, Illinois to Richard Avis and Victoria Woods. She has one younger brother, Richard Avis. At five years old, Avis' family relocated from Chicago to St. Petersburg, Florida where Avis grew up. She was a competitive equestrian from the age of seven to seventeen, competing on the hunter/jumper circuit in Florida. In 2003, Avis traveled to Ghana, West Africa for the Model of the Universe pageant, winning the title of Miss Teen Model of the Universe. Ridgecrest is a city in Kern County, California, United States, along U.S. Route 395 in the Indian Wells Valley in northeastern Kern County, adjacent to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake (NAWS, or China Lake). It was incorporated as a city in 1963. The population was 27,959 at the 2020 census, up slightly from 27,616 at the 2010 census. Ridgecrest is surrounded by four mountain ranges; the Sierra Nevada on the west, the Cosos on the north, the Argus Range on the east, and the El Paso Mountains on the south. It is approximately from the Lancaster/Palmdale area, from Bakersfield, and from San Bernardino, the three nearest major urban centers.
