The Derry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Dhoire) or Derry GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. All-Ireland Vocational Schools Championship
The All-Ireland Vocational Schools Championship was a Gaelic Athletic Association football and hurling competition. There are two levels of competition. Individual schools compete for county, provincial and All-Ireland competitions. County teams selected from schools within each county also competed for provincial and All-Ireland competitions. The final intercounty championships in both codes were played in 2012, while the last schools championships were played in 2013. Tony Scullion
Tony "The Tiger" Scullion (born 6 February 1962) is a former dual player of Gaelic games who played Gaelic football and hurling with Derry in the 1980s and 1990s. He is chiefly known as a footballer and was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, also winning Ulster Senior Football Championships in 1987 and 1993. With Derry footballers he usually played in the full-back line and is regarded as one of the best full-backs of his generation. Scullion played club football and hurling with St Colm's GAC Ballinascreen. Scullion is among the few players who won four All Stars over the course of their career and was named full back on the Irish News Team of the Decade in 2004. The public voted him onto the All-Time Derry Football Team via an online poll in 2007. He has recently applied for the vacant Derry Senior football manager's job. Dermot McNicholl
Dermot McNicholl (born 6 November 1965) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1980s and 1990s. He was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, also winning Ulster Senior Football Championships in 1987 and 1993. An All Star winner, he usually played in the half-forward line and was regarded as one of the best footballers in Ireland at a time. McNicholl is from Glenullin, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, and played club football with John Mitchel's GAC Glenullin, where he won a Derry Senior Football Championship in 1985. He was described by former Derry teammate Fergal McCusker as "impossible to mark". He managed home-club Glenullin in 2009. Gerry McElhinney
Francis Gerard McElhinney (born 19 September 1956) is a former sportsman who played Gaelic football, soccer and was also a boxer. He played Gaelic football for the Derry county team and won two Ulster Senior Football Championships with the county. He also won an All Star Award for his performances in the 1975 All-Ireland Championship. He played club football for St. Mary's Banagher. As a soccer player, he played professionally for Bolton Wanderers, Rochdale, Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United, and was capped six times by Northern Ireland. Gaelic football McElhinney initially made his name on the Gaelic football field. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, he played club football for his local club St Mary's Banagher and was called up to play for the Derry Senior team at a very young age. Peter Stevenson
Peter Stevenson is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1960s and 1970s. Described as a "tower of strength", he won the Ulster Senior Football Championships on three occasions. He was awarded an All Star in 1975. Stevenson played club football with a number of clubs throughout his career including St Colm's GAC Drum and Ballerin Sarsfields. Playing career Inter-county career Stevenson won Ulster Senior Championships with Derry including back-to-back successes in 1975 and 1976 when he was captain. Anthony McGurk
Anthony 'Tony' McGurk is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1970s and 1980s. He won three Ulster Championships with the side (1970, 1975 and 1976). McGurk played club football with Erin's Own GAC Lavey, where he won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1991, as well as Ulster Club and Derry Club Championships. McGurk won All-Stars in 1973 and 1975 and hence became the first player to win All-Star awards in different positions. He now lives in Derry City and has been one of the leading figures behind the scenes in the Steelstown club. Sean O'Connell
Sean O'Connell was a Gaelic football manager and player who featured for the Derry county team in the late 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and was on the Derry side that finished runners-up to Dublin in the 1958 All-Ireland Championship – winning an Ulster Championship with the county that year, and three more in 1970, 1975 and 1976. For his performances in the 1967 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, O'Connell won a Cú Chulainn Award (the awards which ran between 1963 and 1967 were the forerunner to the modern day All Star Awards). O'Connell played his club football for Ballerin Sarsfields. Lavey GAC
Erin's Own GAC Lavey ( ga, Leamhaigh CLG) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Catholic parish of Lavey, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of the Derry GAA and currently caters for Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and ladies' Gaelic football. The club's biggest success came when it won the 1991 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. They have won the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship twice and have won the Derry Senior Football Championship on eight occasions. The club has won the Derry Senior Hurling Championship 19 times. Lavey won Club of the Year at the 1990 Ulster GAA Writers' Association Awards. Henry Downey
Henry Downey (born 27 December 1966) is a former dual player of Gaelic games, who played as a Gaelic footballer at senior level for the Derry county team in the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, where he usually played in at centre half back. He was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, where he was captain. He also won two Ulster Senior Football Championships (1993 and 1998) and four National League (1992, 1995, 1996 and 2000) medals with Derry. He also played hurling. All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 1958
The 1958 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was won by Dublin, who beat Derry in the final. The championship, the premier competition in Gaelic football, is a series of games organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association and played during the summer and early autumn. Jim McKeever
James McKeever (6 December 1930 – 5 April 2023) was a Northern Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the late 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s and played club football for St Trea's GFC Ballymaguigan and Seán O'Leary's GAC Newbridge. He was captain of the Derry side that finished runners-up to Dublin in the 1958 All-Ireland Championship. Career McKeever was a very versatile player as evidenced by his playing in all positions with the exception of goalkeeper and wing half-back during his Derry career. He started out his inter-county career as a half-forward, but is chiefly remembered as a midfielder for both club and county and has been frequently described as "one of the greatest midfielders of all time".
