Derrero
Derrero is a Welsh band formed in Newport in 1996 by singers and guitar players Andy Fung and Ashley Cooke, keyboard player Mary Wycherley and bass player David Hirst. Their first single "Dipstick" / "Tiny Shoes" was released in 1997 on Size 8 Recordings, followed by their eponymous debut album on producer Greg Haver's Big Noise Recordings. They subsequently released three EPs before releasing their second full length album ''Fixation with Long Journeys'' in 2000. Their final album before disbanding, ''Comb the Breaks'', was released in 2002 on Sylem Records. In 2000, Derrero backed John Cale playing his song " Buffalo Ballet" in the Marc Evans-directed documentary '' Beautiful Mistake''. Between 1999 and 2001, the band appeared three times on John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show and their song "Radar Intruder" was included in the Peel-curated '' Peelennium'' list. Newport, Wales
Newport ( cy, Casnewydd; ) is a city and county borough in Wales, situated on the River Usk close to its confluence with the Severn Estuary, northeast of Cardiff. Greg Haver is a Welsh music producer, based in New Zealand. He is best known for his work with the Manic Street Preachers and Melanie C. He has worked on a number of award-winning singles and albums. With the Manic Street Preachers, he was involved in production for numerous gold and platinum accredited albums. '' This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, Send Away the Tigers'' and '' Know Your Enemy'' albums received gold accreditations in the UK. He also worked on Melanie C's album '' Beautiful Intentions''. John Cale
John Davies Cale (born 9 March 1942) is a Welsh musician, composer, singer, songwriter and record producer who was a founding member of the American rock band the Velvet Underground. Over his six-decade career, Cale has worked in various styles across rock, drone, classical, avant-garde and electronic music. He studied music at Goldsmiths College, University of London, before relocating in 1963 to New York City's downtown music scene, where he performed as part of the Theatre of Eternal Music and formed the Velvet Underground. Since leaving the band in 1968, Cale has released sixteen solo studio albums, including the widely acclaimed '' Paris 1919'' (1973) and ''Music for a New Society'' (1982). ''Fear'' is the fourth solo studio album by Welsh rock musician John Cale, released on 1 October 1974 by Island Records. Recording and content ''Fear'' is the first of Cale's three studio albums for Island Records, all of which were released in a period of just over a year. During this time Cale was also producing records for other artists, working on albums such as ''Horses'' (1975) by Patti Smith, one of the most influential of all proto-punk records. In addition to his lead vocals on ''Fear'', Cale also played keyboards, guitars, viola, violin and bass, and was joined by Fairport Convention's Richard Thompson, Roxy Music's Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera, and other artists who were signed to Island at the time. Marc Evans (born 1963) is a Welsh director of film and television, whose credits include the films '' House of America'', '' Resurrection Man'' and '' My Little Eye''. Biography Evans was born in 1963 in Cardiff, Wales. John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), known professionally as John Peel, was an English disc jockey (DJ) and radio presenter. He was the longest-serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Sŵn Festival (''sŵn'' is Welsh for "sound, noise", ) is a music festival founded by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens and Cardiff-based promoter John Rostron. The festival takes place annually in Stephens' hometown of Cardiff, Wales. The first Sŵn Festival took place in November 2007. Bands playing included The Cribs, Beirut, David Holmes, Edwyn Collins and Cherry Ghost with DJs including Annie Mac. Music is the festival's core medium. Stephens' eclectic musical taste is reflected in the diversity of the artists performing, and Welsh language bands are well represented on the line-up.
