Dermot Dobbin
Noel Dermot Dobbin, businessman and former team president of the St. John's Fog Devils of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, was born St. John's, Newfoundland. Dobbin, Derm as he is commonly known, and his brother Craig Dobbin share many business interests among which is the franchise for the St, John's Fog Devils. Both Derm and Craig proved to be savvy negotiators in obtaining a lease for Mile One Stadium amidst the protracted and sometimes rancorous negotiations with the City of St. John's. Dobbin formed N.D. Dobbin Limited in 1976, a company with business interests in contracting, real estate, property management and hotel operations. Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (french: Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec; abbreviated ''QMJHL'' in English, ''LHJMQ'' in French) is one of the three major junior ice hockey leagues that constitute the Canadian Hockey League. The league includes teams in the provinces of Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. The current president of the QMJHL is Gilles Courteau. The President's Cup is the championship trophy of the league. The QMJHL champion then goes on to compete in the Memorial Cup against the OHL and WHL champions, and the CHL host team. The QMJHL had traditionally adopted a rapid and offensive style of hockey. Former QMJHL players hold many of the Canadian Hockey League's career and single season offensive records. Dominion Of Newfoundland
Newfoundland was a British dominion in eastern North America, today the modern Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It was established on 26 September 1907, and confirmed by the Balfour Declaration of 1926 and the Statute of Westminster of 1931. It included the island of Newfoundland, and Labrador on the continental mainland. Newfoundland was one of the original dominions within the meaning of the Balfour Declaration and accordingly enjoyed a constitutional status equivalent to the other dominions of the time. In 1934, Newfoundland became the only dominion to give up its self-governing status, which ended 79 years of self-government. The abolition of self-government came about because of a crisis in Newfoundland's public finances in 1932. Craig Dobbin
Craig Lawrence Dobbin, (12 September 1935 – 7 October 2006) was an industrialist and chairman and chief executive officer of CHC Helicopter Corporation, a public company traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. The company, headquartered in Richmond, BC, is the world's largest helicopter company, providing global helicopter services. Dobbin was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and received his early education at Saint Bonaventure's College in St. John's. After a period of employment with P. J. Dobbin Lumber and Building Supplies, Dobbin engaged in a short-haul trucking venture and underwater salvage operation until he started real estate speculation in St. John's in 1963. Mile One Stadium
Mary Brown's Centre (formerly Mile One Centre) is an indoor arena and entertainment venue located in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The arena opened in May 2001, replacing Memorial Stadium (St. John's), Memorial Stadium. At full capacity the arena can seat 7,000 people.
