Derek Thompson (born 4 April 1948) is a British actor, most notable for playing Charlie Fairhead in the long-running BBC television medical drama series ''Casualty'', playing the role since the series' inception in 1986, and his performance as Jeff in the British gangster film ''The Long Good Friday''. Early life Thompson was born in Belfast and has a twin sisterElaine Johns(née Thompson). During their teenage years, they combined to form the singing duo ''Elaine and Derek''. They recorded four albums and 15 EPs together, singing in harmonies, and released one eponymously titled album on the Parlophone label in 1961. Derek Thompson (born 31 July 1950) is a British presenter and commentator of horse racing on Radio Five Live and At the Races in Britain. Biography He was born to Stanley Moorhouse Thompson and Lillian Thompson in Stockton-on-Tees, North Riding of Yorkshire, England. He had an older brother, Howard. Stanley Thompson was a small-time trainer of horses, which gave Derek his first rides as an amateur jockey. Through membership of the local hunt, he met future Grand National winning jockey, Bob Champion and became a lifelong friend. He attended Guisborough Grammar School and gave his first commentary - on a point-to-point meeting - at the age of 15. Derek Rain Thompson (born January 8, 1981) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 1st round of the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft and pitched in the Indians minor league system for the Burlington Indians (2000), Columbus Indians (2001–2002) and Kinston Indians (2002). He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the Rule 5 draft on December 16, 2002, and then sold to the Los Angeles Dodgers. For the Dodgers he played for the Jacksonville Suns in 2004 & 2005, appearing in the Southern League All-Star Game in 2004. Thompson pitched briefly for Triple-A Las Vegas in 2005 before he was called up to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He started 3 games for the Dodgers in 2005. Derek Kahn Thompson (born May 18, 1986) is an American journalist. He is a staff writer at ''The Atlantic'' and the author of ''Hit Makers: How to Succeed in an Age of Distraction''. Early life Derek Thompson was born in McLean, Virginia, the son of Robert Thompson and Petra Kahn, both deceased.
