Derek Dinger
Derek Dinger (born March 28, 1987) is a German professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently playing for EC Kassel Huskies of the DEL2. Playing career Dinger originally joined the DEG Metro Stars for the 2010–11 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season, 2010–11 season following the folding of hometown team the Kassel Huskies on September 2, 2010. After two seasons with the Stars, Dinger left to join ERC Ingolstadt on a one-year contract on May 11, 2012. From August 2012 to May 2014 Derek Dinger played for the ERC Ingolstadt in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, DEL and scored in 53 main round games one goal and five assists. At the end of the following season he won the German Championship with the ERC Ingolstadt, ERCI. After a solitary season with Schwenninger Wild Wings, Dinger signed a one-year contract with Augsburger Panther on April 14, 2015. EC Kassel Huskies
The EC Kassel Huskies are a professional ice hockey club based in Kassel, Hessen, Germany. The club currently competes in DEL2, the second level of ice hockey in Germany. The Huskies were founded in 1977 and have competed in the top five levels of the hockey in Germany since that time. Kassel's home barn is the Eissporthalle Kassel, which has a capacity of 6,100. The club's nickname is the Sled Dogs. Kassel has won two second level championships in 2008 and 2016 and have won one top level junior championship in 2004. The Huskies have finished runner-up in Germany's top league, DEL, in 1997 and have been beaten finalists in the Deutscher Eishockey-Pokal in 2004. The Fischtown Pinguins, also known as REV Bremerhaven, are a professional ice hockey team based in Bremerhaven, Germany. From 2004 to 2016 the team played at the second level of ice hockey in Germany, until the 2012–13 season the 2nd Bundesliga and, from the 2013–14 season onward the DEL2. The Oberliga (English: ''Upper League'') is the third tier of ice hockey in Germany, below DEL2 and ahead of the Regionalliga. Bavarian Ice Hockey Leagues
The Bavarian ice hockey leagues are part of the German ice hockey league system and form the tiers four to six of the league system in the state of Bavaria. The leagues are operated by the ''Bayrischer Eissport Verband'', the Bavarian association for ice sports. Overview The league system in Bavaria consists of three separate tiers, these being the ''Bayernliga'' (IV) (English:''Bavarian League''), ''Landesliga'' (V) (English:''State League'') and ''Bezirksliga'' (VI) (English:''County League''). Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions. Point (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss. Such a ranking system, implemented primarily to ensure a tie counted as a "half-win" for each team in the standings, is generally regarded as British and/or European in origin and as such adopted by the National Hockey League which was founded in Canada where leagues generally used ranking systems of British origin.
