Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1921 represents the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for fifty years. It was their twenty-third season in the County Championship and they won five matches to finish twelfth. 1921 season After the appalling results of 1920, George Buckston returned as captain at the age of 40 with the firm purpose of reviving a dispirited eleven. Buckston had not played county cricket since 1907, but his appointment was followed by a revival in Derbyshire fortunes. Derbyshire CCC played twenty games in the County Championship in 1921 and won five, to finish twelfth in the table. They also played a match against Dublin University on 16 July 1921, which was a win for Derbyshire by an innings and 133 runs and an additional match against Leicestershire. This is a list of seasons played by Derbyshire County Cricket Club in English cricket, from the club's formation in 1870. Early years 1871–1887 Derbyshire played their first matches in 1871. For the first three years their only opponents were Lancashire. When Kent joined in 1874, by a quirk of scoring which was based on games lost, they were County Champion. The club was bedevilled by financial problems, and in 1888 the sporting press decided no longer to accord them first class status. Wilderness years 1888–1893 From 1888 Derbyshire's matches were not accorded first class status. George Buckley (cricketer, Born 1889)
George Arthur Buckley (3 February 1889 – 1 December 1935) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1921. Buckley was born in Skegby, near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He made three minor Counties Championship appearances in 1909 for Cheshire. In 1913 he was playing for Keighley and Craven District, and was selected for Nottinghamshire against Leicestershire but had to withdraw because of injury. He made his first-class debut and only appearance for Derbyshire against Yorkshire in June 1921. His batting scores were 8 and 2, and he bowled 10 overs without taking a wicket. Buckley was a right-handed batsman and scored a total of ten runs in two innings in one first-class match. He was a right-arm medium-fast bowler and took no wickets in 10 overs. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Joseph Bowden
Joseph Bowden (8 October 1884 – 1 March 1958) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1909 to 1930. Bowden was born at Glossop, Derbyshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1909 season against Sussex in May when he made 6 and 14. Over the next four years he played about five games a year, but in the 1914 season he played 16 matches for the club. Cricket was interrupted by the First World War, and Bowden did not return to the first-class game until the 1921 season. In that season he scored his first century of 108 against Gloucestershire. He played steadily in the 1922 season and in the 1923 season scored 114 against Somerset. After good but uneventful seasons in 1924 and 1925, Bowden managed an average of 30.52 in the 1926 season, clocking up 1221 runs and making 106 against Warwickshire. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Gloucestershire. Founded in 1870, Gloucestershire have always been first-class and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club played its first senior match in 1870 and W. G. Grace was their captain. The club plays home games at the Bristol County Ground in the Bishopston area of north Bristol. A number of games are also played at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival at the College Ground, Cheltenham and matches have also been played at the Gloucester cricket festival at The King's School, Gloucester. Somerset County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Somerset. Founded in 1875, Somerset was initially regarded as a minor county until official first-class status was acquired in 1895. Yorkshire County Cricket Club is one of 18 first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Yorkshire. Yorkshire are the most successful team in English cricketing history with 33 County Championship titles, including one shared. Johnny Douglas
John William Henry Tyler Douglas (3 September 1882 – 19 December 1930) was an English cricketer who was active in the early decades of the twentieth century. Douglas was an all-rounder who played for Essex County Cricket Club from 1901 to 1928 and captained the county from 1911 to 1928. He also played for England and captained the England team both before and after the First World War with markedly different success. As well as playing cricket, Douglas was a notable amateur boxer who won the middleweight gold medal at the 1908 Olympic Games. Arthur Morton (cricketer, Born 1883)
Arthur Morton (7 May 1883 – 18 December 1935) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) between 1903 and 1926. He made over 10,000 runs and took nearly 1,000 wickets. Morton was born at Mellor, Derbyshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in May 1903 against MCC when he was out for a duck in both innings and took the only wicket in the second innings before MCC won. He played six matches in 1903 taking a total of 3 wickets with a top score of 22. However, in 1904 he played 17 matches, but only took six wickets and made a top score of 56. In 1905 his bowling picked up and he started to improve his run total, but it was 1907 before he managed his first 5 wicket innings. He managed another 5 wicket innings in 1908 but in 1909 took five 5-wicket innings with a best performance of 6–38.
