Der Krumme Teufel
''Der krumme Teufel'' (''The Lame Devil'' or "The Limping Devil", 1751 or 1752), Hob. 29/1a, was Joseph Haydn's first opera. This German-language comic opera in the genre of Singspiel was commissioned by its librettist, leading comic actor . It was forbidden after two acclaimed performances in Vienna due to "offensive remarks in the text", but later revived and probably revised as ''Der neue krumme Teufel'' ("The New Lame Devil", 1757 or 1758), Hob. 29/1b. The music is lost, though a libretto survives for each version. Eva Badura-Skoda (née Halfar; 15 January 1929 – 8 January 2021) was a German-born Austrian musicologist. Biography Born in Munich, Eva Halfar studied at the Vienna Conservatory and took courses in musicology, philosophy, and art history at the universities of Heidelberg, Vienna (Erich Schenk), and Innsbruck (Ph.D., 1953, with the thesis ''Studien zur Geschichte des Musikunterrichtes in Österreich im 16., 17. und 18. Count Morzin
Count Morzin (Karl Joseph, Count Morzin) was an aristocrat of the Holy Roman Empire during the 18th century. He is remembered today as the first person to employ the composer Joseph Haydn as his Kapellmeister, or music director. The first few of Haydn's many symphonies were written for the Count.
