''The Forester of the Silver Wood'' (German: ''Der Förster vom Silberwald'') is a 1954 Austrian-West German drama film directed by Alfons Stummer and starring Anita Gutwell, Rudolf Lenz and Karl Ehmann. It is part of the post-war trend of heimatfilm set in rural Austria or southern Germany. It was a popular success, leading to several follow-up films with the same lead actors including '' The Poacher of the Silver Wood''.Baer p.181 In Austria it was released as ''Echo of the Mountains'' (German: ''Echo der Berge''). It was shot at the Sievering Studios in Vienna with location shooting in Salzburg and the Tyrol. The film's sets were designed by the art director Eduard Stolba. Sievering Studios
Sievering Studios were film production studios located in Sievering, a suburb of the Austrian capital Vienna. The studios were established in 1916 by the film pioneer Alexander Kolowrat for use by his Sascha-Film. After the First World War they functioned as the largest film studios of the new Austrian Republic and a number of major productions were made there during a boom period for the country's film industry during the silent era of the 1920s. Directors such as Michael Curtiz and Alexander Korda worked there during the decade. Following the Anschluss of 1938, Sievering was incorporated as part of the new company Wien Film by the Nazi authorities. After the Second World War it was located in the American Sector of Occupied Vienna. Control of the property of the former Wien Film, including the Sievering Studios, were placed under the control of director Karl Hartl. Erni Mangold (sometimes ''Ernie'' or ''Erna;'' born as Erna Goldmann on 25 January 1927) is an Austrian actress and stage director. Since 1948, she had appeared in more than 75 films and TV productions. Life Goldmann was born into a family of artists. The father was a painter, whilst her mother, who was likely to become a successful concert pianist, resigned to her career in favour of her family. She had piano lessons from age 4 to 14 years.
