DerHova
Harout Arthur Der-Hovagimian (sometimes spelled "Ter-Hovakimyan"; born 22 February 1974) is a Canadian-Armenian composer, songwriter and record producer. Career Harout Arthur Der-Hovagimian signed his first recording contract at the age of 17 with the newly found Canadian record label Hi-Bias Records. For the following 15 years, he was mainly credited under his stage name "Mark Ryan". For years, his main focus was his Temperance project. Starting out as a solo Tech house project, his debut commercial release was the five-track ''Phantasy'' EP, released early 1992. Temperance eventually crossed over into a more Dance-pop/Eurodance sound with the inclusion of Mark's schoolmate Lorraine Reid on vocals. Their first hit "Music Is My Life" was released in 1994, followed by a number of other hits, worldwide licenses, numerous Juno Award Nominations. Qele Qele
Armenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Qélé, Qélé" written by H.A. Der-Hovagimian (aka DerHova) and Sirusho. The song was performed by Sirusho, who was selected internally by the Armenian broadcaster Public Television of Armenia (AMPTV) to represent Armenia in the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia. Sirusho's selection as the Armenian artist was announced on 15 November 2007, while the song was selected through a national final, which took place on 8 March 2008 where four songs competed. "Qélé, Qélé" was selected as the winning song after gaining 86.5% of the public televote. Armenia was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 20 May 2008. Sofi Mkheyan
Sofi Mkheyan ( hy, Սոֆի Մխեյան, born April 8, 1984) is an Armenian singer and the winner of Best Newcomer award at the Armenian National Music Awards in Yerevan in 2005. Early life Mkheyan was born in Yerevan, the daughter of Parliament member Gagik Mkheyan, who previously served as the Vice President of Orinats Yerkir. She has one brother, Gor. She started singing at the Doremi Vocal Studio and later Sayat Music School and Romanos Melikyan Musical College; all three are in Yerevan. She then attended Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. Career Mkheyan won the Best Newcomer award at the Armenian National Music Awards in 2005; Best Modern Pop Female in 2009; and Best Female Singer in 2010. Hasmik Karapetyan (Armenian: Հասմիկ Կարապետյան; born 4 July 1977) is an Armenian pop singer. Career Hasmik started singing at a young age and composed some songs at the age of 13. (in Armenian) Her debut song was in 1995 at the "Bohem" festival, where she presented her song "Garun" (meaning Spring in Armenian). Between 1995 and 1997, she worked in the Ardzaganq Studios as a soloist and a musician, recording six songs and had concerts throughout Armenia. Tamar Mardirossian ( hy, Թամար Մարտիրոսեան; born October 28, 1986), known professionally as Tamar Kaprelian, is an Armenian-American singer, songwriter, and philanthropist. Kaprelian began her career in 2008, after winning a cover contest organized by OneRepublic, performing " Apologize". Following her win, Ryan Tedder introduced her to Interscope Records executives, and she was signed to the label. She went on to release her debut studio album ''Sinner or a Saint'' in 2010 through Interscope. Siranush Harutyunyan ( hy, Սիրանուշ Հարությունյան; born 7 January 1987), known professionally as Sirusho ( hy, Սիրուշո), is an Armenian singer and songwriter. She received her first award when she was nine years old for her song "Lusabats". Sirusho's first studio album, ''Sirusho'', was released in 2000; followed by the second album ''Sheram'' in 2005. In the same year, she was awarded the Future of Armenian Music, Best Album and Best Female Performer awards in the first Armenian National Music Awards. Eurovision Song Contest 2008
The Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was the 53rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Belgrade, Serbia, following the country's victory at the with the song "Molitva" by Marija Šerifović. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), the contest was held at the Belgrade Arena, and (for the first time) consisted of two semi-finals on 20 and 22 May, and a final on 24 May 2008. The three live shows were presented by Serbian television presenter Jovana Janković and musician Željko Joksimović. Forty-three countries participated in the contest, the highest ever number of participants in the contest beating the record of forty-two set the year before. Azerbaijan and San Marino participated for the first time, while Austria did not participate, mainly due to questions on the semi-final organisation as well as the politicization of the contest. Vladimir Arzumanyan ( hy, Վլադիմիր Արզումանյան; born 26 May 1998 in Stepanakert, Republic of Artsakh) is an Armenian singer. He represented Armenia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the entry Mama (Մամա). In the final Vladimir won, becoming the first Armenian singer to have won in a Eurovision event. Temperance (group)
Temperance was a Canadian Electronic music duo, formed in Toronto in 1990. Biography Temperance was founded by music hobbyist Mark Ryan (H.A. Der-Hovagimian), who began it as a solo commercial Tech house project until he was joined by singer Lorraine Reid. The duo signed a recording contract with Hi-Bias Records in 1991. Temperance's first commercial release was in early 1992 with the 5-track EP ''Phantasy''. The song "Losing Touch" featured the vocals of Lorraine Reid, Ryan's former schoolmate. The follow-up was a 5-track EP titled ''Obsessive''. Although the first two releases charted on multiple underground charts throughout the world, Temperance crossed over to commercial pop dance with the release of the single "Music Is My Life" in early 1994. Dance Music
Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. While there exist attestations of the combination of dance and music in ancient times (for example Ancient Greek vases sometimes show dancers accompanied by musicians), the earliest Western dance music that we can still reproduce with a degree of certainty are old fashioned dances.
