"Deputy of Love" is a 1979 disco single by Don Armando. Background The words and music were composed by Ron Rogers, a songwriter from the South Bronx, who also played piano on the Ze Records recording. Rogers went on to write and produce several other dance records. The song went to number one on both U.S. and international Billboard Disco Charts, becoming the last single to hit the top spot during the 1970s, but did not reach either the US Billboard Hot 100 or ''Billboard'' R&B chart. Don Armando
Armando Bonilla Jr. (August 9, 1946 – November 16, 2002), known as Don Armando, was an American musician. He formed the Second Avenue Rhumba Band with vocalist Fonda Rae and scored a #1 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart with " Deputy of Love" in 1979. Bonilla was also a percussionist with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. Biography Armando "Sonny" Bonilla was born and raised in East Harlem, New York City, the eldest sibling of a family composed of five sons of a Puerto Rican father – Roman Armando Bonilla, the leader of the East Harlem Orchestra – and a Colombian mother. After completing a tour of duty with the United States Air Force, he graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, and later he acquired a master's degree from Columbia University. History Michael Zilkha (b. 1954) is a British-born Oxford University, Oxford graduate of Iraqi descent, the son of Selim Zilkha, former owner of Mothercare, a major UK retail company, and the stepson of Cabinet of the United Kingdom, Cabinet member Harold Lever, Baron Lever of Manchester, Lord Lever. In the mid-1970s, Zilkha worked in the New York publishing industry and was a contributor to the ''Village Voice''. Michel Esteban (b. 1951) studied art in Paris and at the School of Visual Arts in New York, before returning to Paris in 1975 and opening the shop Harry Cover (a pun on "haricots verts"), which specialised in current rock music merchandise from the US and UK. Ronald Bruce Rogers (born November 5, 1952), better known as Ron Rogers or Ronnie Rogers, is a songwriter, composer, recording artist and record producer from New York City. His career spanned from the late 1970s until the 1990s. Life and career Rogers was born in Soundview, South Bronx, New York in 1952. After recording a debut RCA Victor LP entitled ''Gichy Dan’s Beachwood # 9'', co-produced with songwriter August Darnell, Rogers composed the words and music to Don Armando's hit " Deputy of Love", which reached number one on the Billboard U.S. dance chart. Following this initial success, Michael Zilkha, founder of ZE Records, began publishing Rogers' compositions through Island Records. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine.
