Denys Granier-Deferre
Denys Granier-Deferre (born 27 December 1949, Boulogne-Billancourt) is a French film director. Biography Denys Granier-Deferre is the son of Pierre Granier-Deferre with whom he started cinema as his assistant, notably on his father's movie ''Le Chat'' (1971). He then worked with different French directors before writing and filming his first movie, ''Que les gros salaires lèvent le doigt!'', in 1982. Boulogne-Billancourt (; often colloquially called simply Boulogne, until 1924 Boulogne-sur-Seine, ) is a wealthy and prestigious Communes of France, commune in the Parisian area, located from its Kilometre zero, centre. Pierre Granier-Deferre (27 July 1927 – 16 November 2007) was a French film director and screenwriter His 1971 film ''Le Chat (film), Le Chat'' (The Cat) won the Silver Bear for Best Actor, Best Actor and Silver Bear for Best Actress, Best Actress awards at the 21st Berlin International Film Festival. His 1964 film ''The Adventures of Salavin'' won the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, 12th San Sebastian International Film Festival. Family Granier-Deferre married Annie Fratellini, who starred in his film ''La Métamorphose des cloportes''. They had one daughter, Valerie. He had two children with his second wife, Susan Hampshire, an English actress: a son, Christopher, a producer/director, and a daughter, Victoria, who died shortly after birth. ''Le Chat'' (, "The Cat") is a 1971 French-language drama film directed by Pierre Granier-Deferre and based on Georges Simenon's 1967 novel '' The Cat''. It recounts the story of an elderly married couple, Julien Bouin, a former typographist, and his wife Clemence, who used to perform in a circus, who have been loathing each other for years. They hardly talk to each other in their small house, soon to be demolished. Their only form of communication being occasional notes on scraps of paper. A stray cat being the only one he still gives affection to, the cat becomes the object of Clemence's anger. However, they are soon to understand that they cannot live without each other. The storyline of ''The Cat'' is speculated to have originated from Georges Simenon's difficult relationship with his mother. Its name descends from the word ''réveil'' (meaning "waking"), because participation involves staying awake until morning, as the meal finishes.
