Denton High School
Denton High School is a public high school located in the city of Denton, Texas and classified as a 5A school by the UIL. It is a part of the Denton Independent School District located in central Denton County and was the original high school for Denton. Denton High School was established in 1884. In 1910 it moved to what is now Calhoun Middle School. In 1957 it moved again to its current location on Fulton Street. In the 1990s, DHS yielded grades 10–12 to the newly opened Ryan High School until 1995. In 2015, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. After voters approved a May 2018 Capital Improvement Plan, Denton ISD purchased land to rebuild Denton High School at a new location and expand the school land size from 35 acres to 150 acres. Denton Independent School District, sometimes shortened to Denton ISD, is a school district based in Denton, Texas. DISD's superintendent is Jamie Wilson. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Phyllis George
Phyllis Ann George (June 25, 1949 – May 14, 2020) was an American businesswoman, actress, and sportscaster. In 1975, George was hired as a reporter and co-host of the CBS Sports pre-show ''The NFL Today'', becoming one of the first women to hold an on-air position in national televised sports broadcasting. She also served as the First Lady of Kentucky from 1979 to 1983. She won Miss Texas in 1970 and was crowned Miss America 1971. Early life George was born to Diantha Louise George (née Cogdell) (1919-2003) and James Robert George (1918-1996) in Denton, Texas. She attended North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) for three years until she was crowned Miss Texas in 1970. Phillip Armour (born December 9, 1976) is a former American football player who played for the University of North Texas and the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. Armour accepted a full football scholarship from the University of North Texas (Denton, TX) in January 1995. After starting for 4 years at UNT, Armour signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent immediately after the 1999 NFL Draft. After being injured in his first training camp with the Colts and being placed on injured reserve for the entire 1999 season, Armour made the Colts' 53-man roster for the 2000 season.
