Dennis Walker (footballer)
Dennis Allen Walker (26 October 1944 – 11 August 2003) was an English footballer. Walker was born in the town of Northwich, Cheshire. His mother, Mary Walker, of Queen Street Northwich. Dennis' father was an Afro-Iranian, although he described his heritage as Iranian/Argentinian. According to Mary, his father died at sea whilst Dennis was a baby. Despite this, he learned to speak Persian fluently, and corresponded and visited his father's family in Iran. He was picked up by Manchester United at the age of 12, where Walker was part of the second generation of Busby Babes who were brought through the club after the Munich air disaster. He was on the verge of being selected for the England schoolboys under-15 team, which would have made Walker the first black player to represent England at any level, however he was not eligible as he had already signed professional terms with his club. Stepping Hill Hospital is in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It is managed by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. History The facility was first established on Stepping Hill as the Stepping Hill Poor Law Hospital in December 1905. The facility became a military hospital during the First World War and joined the National Health Service as the Stepping Hill Municipal Hospital in 1948. In an incident which began in July 2011, 3 patients were found to have been unlawfully killed by poisoning at the hospital. The United Kingdom's first prostate cancer operation using a hand-held robot was undertaken at the hospital in March 2012. 1996 Manchester Bombing
The 1996 Manchester bombing was an attack carried out by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) on Saturday, 15 June 1996. The IRA detonated a lorry bomb on Corporation Street in the centre of Manchester, England. It was the biggest bomb detonated in Great Britain since the Second World War. It targeted the city's infrastructure and economy and caused significant damage, estimated by insurers at £700 million (equivalent to £ in ), a sum surpassed only by the 1993 Bishopsgate bombing, also by the IRA. At the time, England was hosting the Euro '96 football championships and a Russia vs. Germany match was scheduled to take place in Manchester the following day. Manchester Arndale (one of a number of shopping centres in the UK by the same developers, also known simply as the Arndale Centre or the Arndale) is a large shopping centre in Manchester, England. David Sadler (footballer)
David Sadler (born 5 February 1946 in Yalding, Kent, England) is an English former footballer. He was a skilful central defender who could also play usefully in midfield or even as a forward. He is currently secretary of the Manchester United Former Players' Association. Sadler started his career with Maidstone United, but signed a professional contract with Manchester United in 1963, helping the club win the 1965 and 1967 First Division Football League championships as well as the 1968 European Cup. He left United in 1974 after scoring 27 goals for the club to join Preston North End, who were being managed by Sadler's former teammate Bobby Charlton. He made 121 appearances (including one as substitute) for the Deepdale club and scored four goals before retiring due to injury in 1977, by which time Charlton had resigned as manager. The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Denis Law
Denis Law (born 24 February 1940) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a forward. His career as a football player began at Second Division Huddersfield Town in 1956. After four years at Huddersfield, he was signed by Manchester City for an estimated transfer fee of £55,000, which set a new British record. Law spent one year there before Torino bought him for £110,000, this time setting a new record fee for a transfer involving a British player. Although he played well in Italy, he found it difficult to settle there and signed for Manchester United in 1962, setting another British record transfer fee of £115,000 (). Bobby Charlton
Sir Robert Charlton (born 11 October 1937) is an English former footballer who played either as a midfielder or a forward. Considered one of the greatest players of all time, he was a member of the England team that won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, the year he also won the Ballon d'Or. He finished second in the Ballon d'Or in 1967 and 1968. He played almost all of his club football at Manchester United, where he became renowned for his attacking instincts, his passing abilities from midfield and his ferocious long-range shot, as well as his fitness and stamina.
