Dennis Kennedy (author)
Dennis Kennedy (born 1940, Cincinnati, Ohio, United States), is an author of books on theater and performance. He is also a playwright, director, and fiction writer. He holds dual citizenship in the USA and Ireland. His recent book on audiences, ''The Spectator and the Spectacle,'' was widely and positively reviewed. Career His academic career has been international in scope, ranging from Michigan to Pittsburgh to Ireland, where he was Beckett Professor of Drama in Trinity College Dublin (1994-2006). He is now emeritus professor and fellow at Trinity College Dublin. He has also held numerous distinguished visiting positions in universities in Pakistan, Singapore, China, Canada, and the United States. He has twice been a fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities, twice won the TLA's George Freedley Memorial Award for Theater History, and was elected to the Royal Irish Academy and Academia Europaea. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Etymology The word comes from the ''Academy'' in ancient Greece, which derives from the Athenian hero, ''Akademos''. Junk Ensemble (styled junk ensemble) is an Irish dance theatre company working in a genre related to Tanztheater. The company was established in 2004 by identical twin sisters Jessica and Megan Kennedy. It is based in Dublin and tours throughout Europe and North America. Its productions focus on unique and original visuals and production methods. Awards Junk Ensemble won the Culture Ireland Touring Award in 2008. Miranda Kennedy is an American journalist and writer. Her first book, ''Sideways on a Scooter: Life and Love in India,'' was published by Random House in 2011. Part memoir, part reported nonfiction, it tells the story of several Indian women to describe the slow pace of social and cultural change in India.
