Denki is an interactive television and console game developer based in Dundee, Scotland. The company is the developer of over 180 console and interactive television games, covering a range of platforms. Denki has worked extensively in the digital interactive television (IDTV) market, with the majority of their titles created specifically for digital interactive television DirecTV platform. History Denki was founded on 20 March 2000 by four former DMA Design employees. The company was set up to be a design-driven development studio, focused on the creation of video games. Denki's intention was to develop games for a variety of smaller platforms, including the Game Boy Advance, which the company saw as opening the games market up to a new, more "casual" audience. Denki Blocks!
''Denki Blocks!'' is a puzzle video game developed by Denki and originally released in 2001 by Rage Games for Sky Gamestar and the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. In the game, players manoeuvre different coloured blocks around a grid to join those of the same colour together. The game features versus modes for multiple players. ''Denki Blocks!'' was ported to the PlayStation Portable in 2011 by Tiger Games, and to Android the same year and iOS in 2010. Many features had to be added to meet price requirements. ''Denki Blocks!'' was released in the United States in 2002 by Majesco Entertainment. The game received positive reviews, with critics praising the gaily coloured graphics, but a major criticism of the iOS version was the lack of an online leaderboard. Gary Penn
Gary Penn is a former British games reviewer who wrote for Zzap!64 in the 1980s and is a video game industry veteran. He later was editor of The One from 1988 to 1990 and was Creative Director at DMA Design where he supervised the release of the first ''Grand Theft Auto'' game in 1997. Penn has described the game as taking years to develop and almost being cancelled. Penn won the Games Media Legend award in 2007. As of September 2011, he is head of development at Denki. Penn claims his magazine background helped him setting up a "Hollywood-style" studio system there: Penn is the author of the book Sensible Software 1986–1999. ''Go! Go! Beckham! Adventure on Soccer Island'' is a platform video game developed by Denki and published by Rage Software for the Game Boy Advance. It was released in Europe in 2002, and was not released in other regions. The game follows the main character, David Beckham, on his quest to defeat the evil Mister Woe in order to restore peace to Soccer Island. Beckham can use his football in order to collect items and to remove enemies from play. Eurogamer's Tom Bramwell called the game the best original platform game on the Game Boy Advance released in 2002. As of 2009, ''Adventure on Soccer Island'' has received a compilation score of 75% from GameRankings. David Scott Jones (born October 1965) is a Scottish video game programmer and entrepreneur who co-founded video game developers DMA Design (now Rockstar North) in 1987, Realtime Worlds in 2002, and Cloudgine in 2012. Jones created ''Lemmings'' and ''Grand Theft Auto'', which both spawned many successful sequels. He also created the ''Crackdown'' franchise for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles, and the open-ended massively multiplayer online game, '' APB: All Points Bulletin''.
