Denis Charles Joseph O'Conor
Denis Charles Joseph O'Conor, O'Conor Don (26 October 1869 – 22 February 1917) was an Irish lawyer and hereditary Chief of the Name O'Conor. O'Conor was the son of Charles Owen O'Conor and Georgina Mary Perry. He was educated at Downside School and the University of London, graduating in law. He was called to the bar at King's Inn. In 1898 he served as High Sheriff of Roscommon, and in 1906 he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Roscommon This is a list of people who served as Lord Lieutenant of County Roscommon. O'Conor Don
The O'Conor family (Middle Irish: ''Ó Conchubhair''; Modern ga, Ó Conchúir) are an Irish noble house and were one of the most influential and distinguished royal houses in Ireland. The O'Conor family held the throne of the Kingdom of Connacht up until 1475. Having ruled it on and off since 967, they ruled continuously from 1102 to 1475. Moreover, the O'Conor parent house the Uí Briúin and Síol Muireadaigh ruled Connacht on many occasions – but not continuously – between 482 and 956. The house of O'Conor also produced two High Kings of Ireland, Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair and his son Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair, the last High King of Ireland. McCarthyIreland: A Reference Guide from the Renaissance to the Present p. 379 was an Irish politician Life The eldest son of Denis O'Conor, Charles O'Conor was educated at Downside School in England and became an Irish Liberal Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Roscommon from March 1860 until his defeated at the 1880 general election. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Wexford in 1883. He was appointed High Sheriff of Sligo for 1863 and High Sheriff of Roscommon for 1884. He was also President of the Society for the Preserving the Irish Language, a precursor of the Gaelic League. He wrote a history of his family called "The O'Conors of Connacht". He married twice; firstly Georgina Mary, the daughter of Thomas Perry, with whom he had four sons, and secondly Ellen Letitia, the daughter of John Lewis More O'Ferrall, of Co. Longford.
