Denemarken
Denemarken is a hamlet in the municipality of Midden-Groningen, in the Dutch province of Groningen. It consists of some ten dwellings, mostly farms. The name does not reference the Scandinavian country but means ''wild lands'' in the local dialect. It is notable for laying on top of the Groningen gas field The Groningen gas field is a natural gas field in Groningen province in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. With an estimated 2,740 billion cubic metres of recoverable natural gas it is the largest natural gas field in Europe and one of the ..., the largest natural gas field in Europe. In 2015 the nature reserve 't Roegwold (''wild swamp forest'') was opened, overlapping partly with Denemarken. Auke Hulst
Auke Anthony Hulst (born May 20, 1975), is a Dutch novelist, journalist and musician. Biography Hulst was raised in the hamlet of Denemarken (meaning: Denmark), in the north of the Netherlands. After a disorganized upbringing he studied audiovisual arts, Dutch literature and English at the University of Groningen. He did not finish any of these studies. From 1998 on Hulst has been working for a number of prominent Dutch and Belgian newspapers and magazines, like Vrij Nederland, Esquire (magazine), Esquire, Knack (magazine), Knack Focus, NRC Handelsblad, De Groene Amsterdammer, and De Standaard. In 2006 he made his literary debut with the novel ''Jij en ik en alles daartussenin'' (translation: You and me and everything in between.) In 2007 he produced, together with cartoonist Raoul Deleo, a hybrid between literary non-fiction and graphic novel, called ''De eenzame snelweg'' (translation: The lonely highway). A hamlet is a human settlement that is smaller than a town or village. Its size relative to a Parish (administrative division), parish can depend on the administration and region. Groningen (province)
Groningen (; gos, Grunn; fry, Grinslân) is the northeasternmost province of the Netherlands. It borders on Friesland to the west, Drenthe to the south, the German state of Lower Saxony to the east, and the Wadden Sea to the north. Midden-Groningen (Gronings dialect, Gronings: ''Midden-Grunnen'') is a List of municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality with a population of 60,953 in the province of Groningen (province), Groningen, Netherlands. The municipality was formed by the merger of former municipalities of Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Slochteren and Menterwolde on 1 January 2018 in the context of the municipal redivision in the province of Groningen 2013-2018. Groningen Gas Field
The Groningen gas field is a natural gas field in Groningen province in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. With an estimated 2,740 billion cubic metres of recoverable natural gas it is the largest natural gas field in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The gas field was discovered in 1959 near Slochteren. The subsequent extraction of the natural gas became central to the energy supply in the Netherlands. Virtually all of the Netherlands was connected to Groningen gas in the following years. Revenue from natural gas production became important in the post-war development and construction of the Dutch welfare state. As of 2013, 2,057 billion cubic metres of natural gas had been extracted from the field. Gas extraction resulted in subsidence above the field. From 1991 this was also accompanied by earthquakes. Kinderen Van Het Ruige Land
(, ) is a Dutch children's choir maintained by public broadcaster BNNVARA. Since 1980 the choir has released one album of new children's songs each year, and is probably the only act from the 1980s with consecutive albums in the top 40 chart (apart from two releases).
