Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde
Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde (french: Saint-Gilles-lez-Termonde) is a part of the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in East Flanders in Belgium, a typical agricultural village in the Dendervallei near the junction of the railroads to Ghent, Mechelen and Brussels. It was formerly known as Zwijveke. Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde is birthplace to poet Emmanuel Hiel (1834 - 1894) and literature historian Wies Moens (1898 - 1982). Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde has a yearly flower show on the first Sunday of September, a parade of flower-covered floats built in the several districts of Sint-Gillis, to a different theme each year. The Arrondissement of Dendermonde (; ) is one of the six administrative arrondissements in the Province of East Flanders, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement. Grembergen (French: ''Grembergen-lez-Termonde'') is a town in the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in the province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is often confused with the municipality of Grimbergen in the province of Flemish Brabant. Overview Grembergen was first mentioned in 1019 as Grendberga. During the 13th and 14th century, the village was reasonably prosperous as a centre of lace production. The village was flooded several times. The old church was destroyed in 1706 by French troops. In 1709, the Saint Margaretha church was built partially from scavenged material of the old church. Dender
The Dender (Dutch, ) or Dendre ( French, ) is a 65-kilometre (40 mi) long river in Belgium, the right tributary of the river Scheldt. The confluence of the two rivers is in the Belgian town of Dendermonde. The Western or Little Dender is 22 kilometres (14 mi) long and springs near Leuze-en-Hainaut at an elevation of about 60 to 70 metres (200 to 230ft) above sea level. The source of the Eastern Dender, which is 39 kilometres (24 mi) long, is near Jurbise at a height of 100 metres (330 ft) above sea level. The two rivers meet in the town of Ath. From that confluence, the river is called the Dender proper. From Ath, the Dender passes into the Denderstreek through the cities and towns of Geraardsbergen, south of which its tributary, the Mark, flows into it. From this confluence, the river continues to flow through Ninove, Denderleeuw, and Aalst, before ending in Dendermonde.
