Democratic Union Of The Valencian Country
Democratic Union of the Valencian Country (in Catalan: ''Unió Democràtica del País Valencià'', UDPV) was a political party in the Valencian Country, Spain. It was founded clandestinely in the University of Valencia in 1962. The party was illegal until 1977. History The UDPV originally had about 50 members. The most prominent leaders of the organization in the 1960s were Vicente Ruiz Monrabal, Vicent Diego, Francesc Fayos and Empar Escrivà. The founding meeting was held in May 1964, signing a cooperation pact with the Democratic Union of Catalonia in May 1965. In collaboration with communist activists, UDPV participated in the campaign against the Francoist referendum in 1968. UDPV also maintained some contacts with the Valencian Socialist Party. Vicente Ruiz Monrabal (1936 in Sedaví, Spain – 2011) was a Spanish lawyer and politician. Ruiz qualified as a lawyer at the University of Valencia. Christian Democratic Team of the Spanish State (in Spanish: ''Equipo Demócrata Cristiano del Estado Español'', EDCEE) was a political alliance of the Democratic Union of Catalonia, the Federation of Christian Democracy (composed of Democratic Left of Ruiz Giménez and the Democratic People's Federation of Gil Robles, formed in January 1976) and other regional parties. EDCEE contested the 1977 general elections in Spain in alliance with Catalan centrist forces. The alliance got 215,841 votes (1.18% of the nationwide vote). It existed informally between 1962 and 1964, during the Francoist State, which had banned all the political organizations other than those in the Movimiento Nacional. Federation of Christian Democracy ( es, Federación de la Democracia Cristiana, FDC) was a Spanish political organization formed on April 14, 1977 by Democratic Left of Joaquín Ruiz-Giménez and Democratic People's Federation of José María Gil-Robles y Quiñones. It was led by Manuel Hidalgo, Juan Bermúdez de Castro, Francisco Soroeta and Cristóbal García. It formed a coalition with the Democratic Union of the Valencian Country called Christian Democratic Team of the Spanish State (EDCEE) for the general elections of 1977. The 1977 Spanish general election was held on Wednesday, 15 June 1977, to elect the Spanish Cortes of the Kingdom of Spain. All 350 seats in the Congress of Deputies were up for election, as well as all 207 seats in the Senate. It was the first free election held in Spain since 1936, prior to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. It was called by Prime Minister Adolfo Suárez as part of the political reform of the Francoist regime, ongoing since shortly after Francisco Franco's death in 1975 and promoted by his successor, King Juan Carlos I. Its aim was to elect a Constituent Cortes that was to draft a new constitution, which would ultimately lead to the repealing of the Fundamental Laws of the Realm and the culmination of the country's transition to democracy. Abbey Of Montserrat
Santa Maria de Montserrat () is an abbey of the Order of Saint Benedict located on the mountain of Montserrat in Monistrol de Montserrat, Catalonia, Spain. It is notable for enshrining the image of the Virgin of Montserrat. The monastery was founded in the 11th century and rebuilt between the 19th and 20th centuries, and still functions to this day, with over 70 monks. There have always been roughly 80 monks in residence. Location The monastery is northwest of Barcelona, and can be reached by road, train or cable car.
