Democratic Sicily
Democratic Sicily ( it, Sicilia Democratica, SD) was a regional centrist Italian political party active in Sicily. The party was launched in November 2014 by (elected on the UDC list), a long-time regional deputy, following a split from Article Four for internal disagreements during the formation of the 3rd Crocetta regional government. 2017 Sicilian Regional Election
The 2017 Sicilian regional election for the renewal of the Sicilian Regional Assembly and the election of the President of Sicily was held on 5 November 2017. Incumbent President Rosario Crocetta was not his party's candidate due to his low popularity. Nello Musumeci, leader of the movement '' Diventerà Bellissima'', was elected president. The Populars of Italy Tomorrow (''I Popolari di Italia Domani'', PID) was a Christian-democratic political party in Italy whose power base was in Sicily. It is currently affiliated with Forza Italia. PID was launched on 28 September 2010 by five splinter deputies (four from Sicily and one from Campania) of the Union of the Centre (UdC) led by Francesco Saverio Romano, the UdC leader in Sicily. They dissented with the party's support to Raffaele Lombardo's fourth regional government and chose to vote in favour of Silvio Berlusconi in a vote of confidence on 29 September in the Chamber of Deputies. Sebastiano "Nello" Musumeci (born 21 January 1955) is a right-wing Italian politician. Musumeci is serving as Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies since 22 October 2022 in the government of Giorgia Meloni. He previously served as President of Sicily from 18 November 2017 until 13 October 2022. Rosario Crocetta
Rosario Crocetta (born 8 February 1951) is an Italian politician. He was the first openly gay mayor in Italy when he became Mayor of Gela in 2003, a post he held until 2009. A prominent figure in the fight against the Sicilian Mafia, in 2009 he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). He was President of Sicily between 2012 and 2017 following the 2012 Sicilian regional election, thus becoming the second openly gay head of a regional government in Italy after Nichi Vendola.
