The Democratic People's Union ( Bosnian: ''Demokratska narodna zajednica'', DNZ) is a political party in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded in 1993 and first led by Fikret Abdić. In 2014 the Democratic People's Union saw a major split when large number of its members led by Elvira Abdić-Jelenović (Fikret's daughter) founded a new party, the Labour Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fikret Abdić
Fikret Abdić (born 29 September 1939) is a Bosnian politician and businessman who first rose to prominence in the 1980s for his role in turning the Velika Kladuša-based agriculture company Agrokomerc into one of the biggest conglomerates in SFR Yugoslavia. He won the popular vote in the Bosnian presidential elections of 1990. In the early 1990s, during the Bosnian War, Abdić declared his opposition to the official Bosnian government, and established the Autonomous Province of Western Bosnia, a small and short-lived province in the northwestern corner of Bosnia and Herzegovina composed of the town of Velika Kladuša and nearby villages. The mini-state existed between 1993 and 1995 and was allied with the Army of Republika Srpska. Elvira Abdić-Jelenović (born 7 September 1967) is a Bosnian politician. She is the president of the Labour Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in 2013. Prior to that, she was a long-year member of the Democratic People's Union, a party founded by her father Fikret Abdić, from which she and her father were banned after internal changes within the party. Bosnian (; / , ) is the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian pluricentric language mainly used by ethnic Bosniaks. Bosnian is one of three such varieties considered official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with Croatian and Serbian. It is also an officially recognized minority language in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo. Bosnian uses both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, with Latin in everyday use. It is notable among the varieties of Serbo-Croatian for a number of Arabic, Persian and Turkish loanwords, largely due to the language's interaction with those cultures through Islamic ties. The House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an upper house of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the lower being the House of Representatives. Federal laws need to be passed by both houses. The House of Peoples is composed out of 23 delegates from each of the constitutive nations of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs as well as eleven delegates of the minorities referred to as others. The House of Peoples has one chairman and two vice-chairmen. In July 2017, the BiH Constitutional Court struck down provisions of the election law regulating the indirect election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The House of Peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, separator=/, Dom naroda Bosne i Hercegovine, Дом народа Босне и Херцеговине) is one of the two chambers of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the other chamber being the House of Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established through the signing of the Dayton Agreement in 1995. It has 15 members equally distributed among the three ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina: 5 Bosniaks, 5 Serbs, and 5 Croats. Velika Kladuša ( sr-cyrl, Велика Кладуша, ; lit. "Great Kladuša") is a town and municipality located in Una-Sana Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in the far northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located near the border with Croatia. As of 2013, it has a population of 40,419 inhabitants. History Velika Kladuša was first mentioned by name on October 30, 1280 (date on its shield) by the name ''Cladosa''. During the era of Byzantine Empire it is assumed that the population of the town started to slowly grow. Towards the end of the 13th century up to 1464, Velika Kladuša was controlled by Croatian noble families of Babonić, Frankopan, Šubić and Tuz de Lak.
