Democratic Montenegro ( Serbian and Montenegrin: Демократска Црна Гора / ''Demokratska Crna Gora''), also known as the Democrats (Демократе / ''Demokrate''), is a conservative liberal, centrist, populist and pro-European political party in Montenegro. Democrats currently has nine MPs in the Parliament of Montenegro, elected in 2020, from the big tent Peace is Our Nation (MNN) electoral list. Its founder and current leader is Aleksa Bečić, former President of the Parliament. It is also the second largest political party in the parliament. History The Democratic Montenegro was formed in 2015 when the faction of Socialist People's Party split and formed a new political party, represented by 2 MPs in the Parliament of Montenegro. Aleksa Bečić
Aleksa Bečić (Cyrillic: Алекса Бечић; born 4 August 1987) is a Montenegrin politician, current member of Parliament of Montenegro, who served as the president of the Parliament from 2020 until 2022. He is the founder and current president of the centrist political party Democratic Montenegro. Early life and education Bečić was born in Cetinje, Montenegrin Old Royal Capital, at that time part of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro of SFR Yugoslavia. Having finished elementary and secondary school of Economics in Podgorica, Bečić graduated at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Montenegro. He obtained a master's degree in 2014. United Montenegro (, UCG) is a conservative political party in Montenegro. Party founder and de facto political leader is Goran Danilović, former Minister of Interior Affairs in Government of Montenegro. The Civic Movement United Reform Action ( cnr, Građanski pokret Ujedinjena reformska akcija / Грађански покрет Уједињена реформска акција), commonly known as simply United Reform Action, or by its abbreviation URA, is a green, socially liberal, and pro-European party in Montenegro. The Democratic Front ( sh, Демократски фронт / Demokratski front, DF) is a right-wing populist and social conservative political alliance in Montenegro. It is currently composed of the New Serb Democracy, Movement for Changes and Democratic People's Party, with some other minor parties as the alliance's partners at the local level, while United Montenegro and Workers' Party are external members of the Democratic Front parliamentary group. 2018 Montenegrin Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Montenegro on 15 April 2018. Former Prime Minister Milo Đukanović, leader of the ruling DPS was elected as new President of Montenegro in the first round. Electoral system The president is elected using the two-round system; if no candidate receives a majority of the vote in the first round, a run-off is held two weeks later. In order to submit their candidacy to the State Electoral Commission, potential candidates needed to collect 7,993 signatures. President is elected every five years, and only is eligible for two terms.
