''Demo-litions: Cast-off Recordings 1996–97'' is a 2011 compilation album by the Crash Test Dummies. It consists of unreleased demos made during the songwriting process that eventually resulted in the album ''Give Yourself a Hand''. The album was self-released via the band's website on April 19, 2011 as both a limited edition CD and MP3 download. Background ''Demo-litions'' features demos recorded by Crash Test Dummies between 1996–97. During this time, the band was trying to record a follow-up to ''A Worm's Life''. Crash Test Dummies
Crash Test Dummies are a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band is most identifiable through Brad Roberts (vocals, guitar) and his distinctive bass-baritone voice. The band members have fluctuated over the years, but its best known line-up consisted of Roberts, Ellen Reid (co-vocals, keyboards), Brad's brother Dan Roberts (bass guitar, backing vocals), Benjamin Darvill (harmonica, mandolin), and Mitch Dorge (drums, percussion). The band is best known internationally for their 1993 single "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" and best known in Canada for the 1991 single "Superman's Song". Oooh La La! (Crash Test Dummies Album)
''Oooh La La!'' is the ninth and most recent studio album by Crash Test Dummies, released 11 May 2010 on Deep Fried Records, distributed by MRI Records. The songs on the album are inspired by the Optigan and Omnichord toy instruments. Background The seeds for Oooh La La! were first planted when Brad Roberts and producer Stewart Lerman (Antony & the Johnsons, The Roches) became infatuated with vintage analog musical toys, particularly one manufactured by the Mattel company called the Optigan (an acronym for "optical organ"). Using celluloid discs, the Optigan projects the sounds of other instruments with different sets of keys triggering chords and individual notes. The discs, with names like "Nashville," "Swing It!" and "Guitar Boogie," rotate to produce different arrays of sounds. Give Yourself A Hand
''Give Yourself a Hand'' is the fourth album by Crash Test Dummies, released in 1999 through ViK. Recordings. It is their final album for BMG. The album spawned a quirky hit " Keep a Lid on Things". The Times review of the album described it as "the best music of their career...an album of rare wit and vitality." Background For their third album '' A Worm's Life'', Crash Test Dummies were given a lot of creative freedom, thanks to the success of ''God Shuffled His Feet''. However, the album was considered a disappointment, and the band's label, BMG, pressured the band to immediately write a follow-up. During initial song-writing the band wrote and recorded 35 demos, all of which were rejected by BMG. The demos from these sessions would be shelved until 2011 when a selection of them were released on the compilation album '' Demo-litions''. Patrick Lee "Pat" MacDonald (born August 6, 1952) is an American musician and songwriter. He is the singer, guitarist, and main songwriter for Timbuk 3, nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1987. He formed the duo with his wife, Barbara K. MacDonald, in Madison, Wisconsin in 1984 before moving to Austin, Texas, that same year. Their breakup in 1995 spurred a solo career that has steadily produced releases in both Europe and the US. John Parish
John Parish (born 11 April 1959) is an English musician, songwriter, composer and record producer. Parish is best known for his work with singer-songwriter PJ Harvey. He has also worked with such artists as Eels, Aldous Harding, Tracy Chapman, Giant Sand, and Sparklehorse. His sister is the actor Sarah Parish. Ellen Lorraine Reid (born 14 July 1966) is a Canadian musician. She provides backing vocals, piano, keyboards and accordion for the Canadian rock band Crash Test Dummies. Early life and education Reid was born and grew up in Selkirk, Manitoba. She studied piano as a child, and later attended the University of Winnipeg. Career While studying in Winnipeg in the late 1980s, Reid joined a band "Brad Roberts and the St.James Rhythm Pigs" who were playing in local taverns. She mainly played piano and sang backup vocals behind lead singer Brad Roberts. Louise Goffin
Louise Goffin (born March 23, 1960) is an American singer-songwriter and producer of the 2011 album ''A Holiday Carole''. Signed by record executive Lenny Waronker to DreamWorks Records, DreamWorks in 1999, Goffin released ''Sometimes a Circle'' in 2002.
